New 1 year old cat fighting with our resident 3 cats

We originally bought 2 sister kittens, and they are beautiful and get along very well.  Soon after these sisters turned a year old, we took on a male kitten from a litter of one, kindly offered to us by a friend living in our local area. Although the 3 of them have their "moments", they generally get along ok.  But we were concerned that the male kitten was being left out of the playing time, especially as he began to get get older and bigger. So we decided to get a 1 year old male cat from a rescue centre (we were advised by the rescue centre to avoid getting a male kitten, but to opt for the older cat). Since bringing him home, things have been quite bad. The new male cat is obsessed with chasing and fighting the other 3 cats. He is very nasty toward them, and the two sisters are petrified of him, and will do anything they can to avoid him (running away at speed and staying on top of wardrobes for hours on end). We'd be grateful for any advice on this situation.

@huwrowlands

Hi Huw

Thank you for reaching out and for adopting another cat.

Can I please get more clarification? What are the ages and temperaments of the other three cats?

Also, what is the history of the new male cat? Is he desexed? Is he on a trial adoption period? How long have you had him, and did he show this type of aggressive behavior from day one? I am trying to decipher whether he’s been socialized with other cats as a kitten.

From the little information provided, he might not be compatible temperament-wise with your other cats.

I look forward to your feedback.
