I have a 12 yo male orange and white cat that is not being himself. Trying to decide if it’s worth a trip to the vet or if he is just sad that his big sister (my daughter) is packing for college. He is in fact very attached to my daughter. She is not able to bring him to college as a freshman. She’s leaving in 3-1/2 weeks for school but we are going on vacation as a family before she heads to college. I know this is stressful on him. He’s hiding in not normal places. He’s not eating as much and sometimes throwing up. He’s never thrown up hairballs etc…. Caca seems fine. We have 2 8 month old brother kittens from the same litter that he normally adores. He grooms them, hangs out with them, plays with them and sleeps with them. The last couple of days he wants nothing to do with the 2 kittens. I’m concerned.

Hi Paulette
Love your name and kitties.
Since your daughter hasn’t left for college yet and you’re heading on vacation soon, I recommend taking your senior boy for a health check to rule out any health concerns.
Sudden changes in behavior, such as hiding, inactivity, loss of appetite (especially since he looks like he loves his food), and sometimes vomiting warrant a health check.
I hope you can make an appointment this coming week.
I am sending positive vibes and best wishes for your trip and your daughter’s college.
