I have been doing some research over the past few days to find the best food for my cat because I want to make sure she’s getting the right nutrition. I’ve read reviews on sites like Consumer Reports, PetMD, and The Spruce Pets, and a few brands keep coming up as top recommendations. These two brands in particular seem to be highly rated:

However, I'm having a hard time deciding which one would best suit my cat’s needs and could use some advice from fellow cat owners. I have a 3-year-old domestic shorthair, and she’s generally healthy but a bit picky about her food. I want something that supports her digestive health, coat, and overall well-being.

Do you think one of these would be a better choice for her? Or are there other brands I should consider? Any recommendations will be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Josh,

It can always be a bit of a challenge finding the right food for a kitty, and can be a trial and error process. I do lean towards the larger companies like Hill's and Royal Canin because they need to have more transparency and quality control. I'm not more loyal to either company and truthfully, the food choice is sometimes up to the cat. Sometimes all we can do is do some trial and error work to see what they like best. Of these two foods, both include benefits for digestion. Hill's has the activbiome+. One of the biggest differences between the two is calorie content, and this can matter a lot depending on how you feed your kitty. The Hill's 1-6 is 483 kcal/cup. The Royal Canin is more moderate at 325. That is over 100kcal/cup difference. If your cat is more of a snacker or grazer, or tends to be very food motivated, the lower calorie option may be better. The Hill's may be a consideration if are able to control or restrict calories with meal feeding. I hope that helps.
