Hi,

Is Calcium Carbonate as either the 8th-12th ingredient in dry cat food, too much calcium &/or going to possibly cause problems down the road? It's usually further down on the list.

Appreciate you all!

Hi KitCat, I'm afraid I don't have a very satisfactory answer for you, but you really can't tell if nutrients like calcium are too much or too little based on their location in the ingredients list. While it is true that the nutrients are listed based on their total weight present in the diet, this says nothing about their percentage or relationship to other nutrients in the diet, which is most important (especially calciums ratio to phosphorus). Fortunately, AAFCO does have restrictions on how tight those ratios need to be, as long as the manufacturer follows AAFCO guidelines.
