Hello , my 2 year old cat had dark red blood in his poop with mucus recently he’s been eating healthy wet Applaws cat food and drink good amount of water, should I be concerned? It happened 2 times this week before he didn’t have it
Mucus and blood in the stool is a sign of colon inflammation, which can have many potential causes. Any new diet change can cause digestive upset signs, so that is one possibility. If the signs continue, you could consider discontinuing the new food, transitioning to it more slowly over 1-2 weeks, and/or see your vet to have your kitty examined. A fecal sample can help rule out intestinal parasites, especially if your cat happens to go outdoors at all.
