My cat likes to pee on my throw rugs . I can't put them down. I am not sure why he is doing this.

My cat is a boy. His name is Felix. He started peeing on my throw rugs about a month ago. He is very mellow and obsessed with me. He weighs 24 lb. I put him on a diet and he isn't happy about it. I found some pee in my closet tonight. He is a tuxedo cat. I love him dearly. Thank you, Donna

Hi Donna
Thank you for sharing the additional information about Felix. I have three Tuxedo cats, so I understand how special they are!
Since Felix has recently started urinating outside the litter box and is on a new diet, I suggest you contact your veterinarian for a discussion or thorough examination. Determining the underlying cause of this behavior as soon as possible is essential to prevent it from becoming a habit.
Peeing outside the litter box could be due to medical issues, stress, or anxiety. However, it's crucial to rule out any medical problems first.
I hope you can identify the cause soon.
Sending you and Felix love & healing

Hi Donna, there could be many reasons for the peeing behavior on the throw rugs. Can you provide a little more history about your cat, his temperament (i.e. confident or anxious), whether he still uses the litter tray, whether this is a new or old behavior, and when it started?
Thank you
Melina
