I recently adopted a 2-3 yr. old female black cat.  She looks like a mini cat.  I have tried every food dry and wet and raw, expensive to cheap. She will eat 3-4 bites of kibble and walk away. Lick only the gravy walk away.  I am concerned if she is getting enough nutrients.  And yes I have tried all the tricks to get her attention.
Help.

@angelicadraven Hi Angelica

It can be overwhelming when a new cat adjusts to a new environment. It’s not unusual for cats in this situation to be selective about their food and lose their appetite. This is usually caused by anxiety or stress and can last for days. If she refuses to eat for an extended period, address the issue as follows:

1. Contact the rescue, breeder or former owner to check her previous routine and favorite food brand/type. Cats are selective about their food and feel at ease when fed the same diet, particularly during stressful events. Feeding her the same food as before for at least a few weeks is best. If she still refuses to eat her usual food. Follow the tips highlighted here: https://cats.com/how-to-get-a-picky-cat-to-eat/
2. Most cats feel more at ease when humans sleep at night. Could you try leaving her food overnight in a quiet spot to see if it makes any difference?
3. Provide her with hiding spots like cat condos, boxes, tunnels, etc.
4. Offer her one room where she feels safe and relaxed (e.g., a sanctuary room with litter, water, food, toys, bed).
5. Try hand feeding if she feels comfortable with you.
6. Play with her before mealtimes to stimulate her appetite.
7. Plug in a Feliway diffuser in the room to make her feel at ease.
8. Consult a veterinarian if she still refuses to eat or shows signs of illness.

I hope this helps.
Melina
