I love your website, especially the cat food reviews. I was wondering if you could do a review on Trovet veterinary food https://www.trovet.com/ I live in Israel and it's slowly becoming a popular brand and, although it has a good reputation, I can't find proper reviews anywhere. Thank you!

Hi Rachel! I'm happy to offer some thoughts on this brand. I wasn't able to find a lot of information about how the foods are formulated or produced, so my comments will be on the general side.

I like that Trovet is very clear on the website about what issues each recipe is designed to treat and exactly what features of the food help with that issue. They provide clear advice for how long to feed the food also—whether it's a short-term therapeutic option or can be fed long-term. I also like that they provide a clear breakdown of macronutrients (protein, fat, fiber, carbs) and micronutrients, so you can easily make a direct comparison with other brands.

Most of the dry food recipes appear to be made up of rice, corn, poultry, and fish oil with the necessary vitamin supplements (depending on the type of therapeutic diet). Unsurprisingly, the carb content of the dry foods is pretty high but most recipes seem to come in a wet food form too. These seem to be lower in carbs and often include different proteins like lamb.

If you're specifically looking for a limited-ingredient or hypoallergenic diet, Trovet has some good options. All their hypoallergenic foods are made with a single protein and carbohydrate source, including some novel proteins like rabbit and insect protein. These hypoallergenic wet foods are pretty low in carbs but seem to rely on plant oils versus animal fats (not necessarily a problem).

I'd say the best use for Trovet is for cats who have been diagnosed with specific health issues or food allergies and you need a food with specific levels of key nutrients or that doesn't contain certain ingredients.

Hope that helps!
