I have a very attentive red cat who likes to be spanked. Is this safe for him? He can be very insistent about it, sticking his bottom in my face with his head down and twisted to the side waiting to be spanked. If I do not comply with his demands he turns and pokes me in the face then turns back around and presents his bottom again. Why does he do this?

Hello Tina
Thank you for reaching out.
Spanking or slapping a cat is not recommended, whether it's done out of love or as a form of punishment.
Generally, when a cat lifts its rear end and presents the base of its tail, it can be a sign of affection, a desire for petting, or a reaction to stimulation.
However, it is perfectly fine to gently stroke your cat's bottom or use a gentle tapping technique known as EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). This method helps release blocked energy and promotes relaxation.
Cats have sensitive nerve endings at the base of their tail; that’s why they enjoy being petted or scratched there. Gently stroking your cat's rear can signal the brain to release dopamine or oxytocin, hormones that indicate pleasure and can make your cat feel happy and content during the interaction.
Additionally, giving your cat a gentle massage ( https://cats.com/cat-massage-therapy ) can improve circulation, reduce stress, and enhance the cat’s overall well-being.
I hope that helps. Enjoy spending time with your red cat!
