I have a female, mostly black tortoiseshell dsh named Artemis after the Greek goddess of the hunt and moon!

I also have an orange, female, medium hair cat named Aurora after the Roman goddess of the dawn!

Though most people refer to Artemis as Girly because it's the only thing she responds to, and Aurora as Arby's because she lived in an Arby's dumpster for nearly a year before she was taken in by the rescue I adopted her from.

Artemis was named because I was going through a rough time in my life when I adopted her and appreciated that Artemis is referred to as the protector of girls and young women. (I was a Greek mythology nerd as a kid if you couldn't tell)

Aurora had such a rough life that I thought a name indicating the dawn, a new beginning, was fitting.

Ms. Georgia Peach Or Peaches. We’re living in PA but while visiting my daughter in GA I fell in love with my girl. She had been (mistakenly we found out last month) diagnosed with FIV so was being ignored. It looked like her adoption chances were pretty slim and they offered her to me for free. Her color made me think of peaches so I thought it appropriate.  However, since that’s probably all she had ever been called by visitors she will only respond to Kitty! Lol so Kitty or Kitty Girl it is!

Tako.  He came with that when I adopted him, and I kept it.  Love it.

Dora and Thumbelina, 2 sisters that I adopted about 3 weeks ago. I'll probably keep their names.

I named my Ragamuffin kitten Belle for a few reasons.  First, my elderly English Bulldog's name was Daisy Belle.  She was the the lady in charge of the house and the boy dogs.  I knew Daisy was near the end of her time here, and I also knew my kitten would be next in charge of these silly boys, so it was kind of like passing the torch.  LOL!  Belle means beautiful in French, and I got my kitten from a breeder of French background, and the cattery has a French name.  I also grew up in a French speaking community.  Put those things all together, and it was a no brainer!!  Plus, it fits her to a T.

@sarahlogan Oh, that's a Belle if I've ever seen one! The name suits her on multiple levels. 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing, Sarah.

I had a hard time finding names for my cats as I am Vietnamese. I want names that are short in both English and Vietnamese so people can remember their names. In the end, my boy’s name is Mưa (meaning Rainy) and my girl’s name is Nắng (meaning Sunny). They are one year old now.

Naming cats is so much fun. I've had quite a few cats over the years. Current:

Gabby - Named after Gabby Giffords. Got the kitten right after Rep Giffords was shot. Colorful dilute calico.

TC - short for Tuxedo Cat

Tabbie - rescue kitten from a group of 5, they needed names when they went for 1st vet visit, so I just called her Tabbie and it stuck

Cleo - Calico/tortoiseshell kind of mix. Very colorful cat with gold eyes.

Electra - Dilute calico, mostly gray.

Anya - half Maine Coon fluffball. Probably the most interesting personality in a cat I've ever known. Gentle, calm (when not getting the zoomies)

I've also had Calvin, Karman, Mohawk and Galuboy Nevada Skyy (GB for short)

My four month old kitten is a Russian Blue named Leonidas. It means son of a lion in Greek and is the name of an ancient king of Sparta. Though so far, he's more cuddly and adorable than a fearsome warrior!

Mallory, I'm so glad that I discovered your YouTube videos, they are so helpful and informative. Thanks for the great content — you're brilliant at what you do!

My cat is called Lanza. A handsome mix tabby boy. He was a stray. He was found on the street by a rescue after a fight with other strays. He got hurt so they sent him to the shelter, and later adopted by me. The rescue people called him Lanza. This name followed him to shelter & I decided to keep it, in memory of all the kind volunteers who have helped this tabby cat.

One interesting thing about this name: Lanza doesn't pronounce in English. It pronounces in Italiano. I don't know why he's given an Italian name at the first place but I feel this is quite interesting. I'm Chinese & I live in the US where everyone speaks English. My friends are always wondering how come my cat is named in Italian everytime I introduce him.

I named my cat Monner! Its really based on my niece and on how she used to pronounce the word 'monster'.

My grandson and I caught three stray kittens this summer, all females. He named the black and white kitten, Panda. I named the grey and white, Colbie, after singer Colbie Caillat. My cousin adopted the all black kitten and named her Ebony.

Hello!

My boy is called Mookie, honestly no rhyme or reason. Made it up and it suits him so well!

Barney - Tom cat from Tulsa.  4-5 years old.  Barney's name was given to him by the lady who rescued him.  I gave Barney his first home 2 1/2 years ago.  Day three I was already letting Barney out.  Best of both worlds, outdoor and indoor, Barney's choice.

Sunshine -  Barney brought home a 5-6 week old calico kitten two years ago.  Sunshine got her name because she is bright and happy as the sun's rays on a cold cloudy winter morning.

Trippy - 3-4 years old orange cat.  Got his name because I am always about to trip with him being at my feet all the time.  Nearly two months ago Trippy invited himself into my home and became part of our family.

Just came in from a morning walk around the block with Sunshine and Trippy.  Barney caught up to us next street over.

Neighbors are amazed I have trained three strays.  Actually the cats have trained me.  Find what they like, and keep a daily routine.  Cats like routines.
