i think my kittens who are litter mates may have mated and could be expecting.....is this bad??

Hi Rhonda, the reality is that in nature this occurs all the time. While I don't know for certain, I do suspect that my own cats' parents were siblings. There is some misinformation out there that siblings won't mate to each other and as long as they're brother/sister, you don't need to get them neutered/spayed. But that is definitively false. Whether or not yours could have mated naturally depends on how old they are. But I have seen mating behavior as early as 4-6 months of age (I observed this in two of my own and promptly had them fixed at about 5 months of age). But you can also have things like infertile heats and false pregnancy. If your veterinarian has ultrasound capabilities, you can tell as early as 3-4 weeks if a pregnancy is present. Cats are only pregnant for about 2 months.
