I have 6 rescue cats - all elderly. I have been feeding them 4 of Friskies daily and use Purina Pro plan dry food. I have been feeding them this for years. I have recently become concerned that it is not a good diet - but quite frankly I don’t know if I can afford the better brands??? Should I only upgrade the dry? Any suggestions- I would really appreciate your help. I also feed ferals - kibble and bits and the Walmart wet (they love it). What about Whole hearted from Petco - I think it’s cheaper and supposed to be good ?

There are a lot of potential reasons someone may have concerns about a diet they're feeding. If there are some particular or specific concerns you have that have developed I can try to answer those questions for you a little better.
In general, I don't believe that there is a universally "best" diet. Diet choice can depend on age variety of a cat population, feeding styles and convenience, cost, health conditions, and more. And cost really is a significant factor, especially for rescue groups or those who simply have multiple cats as you do. More expensive brands are also not always "better". If you have not observed any health concerns in the many years you've been feeding the current diets, there may not be a significant reason to change. We are working on an article that will take a comprehensive look at different diet types, including advantages, disadvantages, and some cost assessments, which I hope will be helpful once it's published in a few weeks.
