What should i do one of our longstanding feral cats that i take care of only once a week look sick? We think he might have kidney issues.at least 8 years old. I couldn't bring him home to recover because of my cats. I would rather stay in the colony

Hi Brigette,
Some of it might depend on what signs you're seeing that makes you concerned he's sick. Is he drinking excessively? Losing weight? Poor appetite? Other signs you're seeing? You mentioned kidney disease. Other conditions can look similar too. Ultimately to know what treatment options will help best, it's important to get as close to a diagnosis as possible. If you can trap him humanely, such as with a Havahart trap, your veterinarian could help you figure out the underlying cause of his ill appearance. Treatment options for feral cats are best when they can be given and then the cat can be released. This does make treatment options sometimes limited for ferals unless there is some degree of safe handling that's possible.
