How can a food product be formulated to meet the nutritional needs of both cats and dogs?

What do you think about food product that claims it meets the nutritional needs of BOTH cats AND dogs? With AAFCO on the packaging... How can a food product meet the nutritional needs of cats and dogs as their nutritional needs are different?

Should we shy away from food that state they meet AAFCO nutritional needs for both feline and canines, or is it perfectly safe to feed and as trustworthy as any other food that meets AAFCO nutritional needs for a single species (feline only OR canine only)?
