When Trevor the cat met a new rescue cow on the farm, he fell in love. Now, he hangs out with the cows regularly and even bosses them around. Though, he does get jealous when his mom spends too much time with the other animals!
“Larger than life”
This is how Trevor’s mom describes her cat, who she received as a birthday gift. Though it’s often a bad idea to give a living animal as a present, Trevor’s mom had always wanted a black cat. When her ex’s sister offered her Trevor, she couldn’t refuse.
She says that she expected your average mouser, but Trevor has a big personality and is always surprising her with his antics. He loves following his mom around and trying to participate in everything she does.
“Kind of like having a little child,” she says. To her, Trevor is almost human-like.
His mom says that she’d definitely come back as a cat in another life if she could. Who knows–maybe Trevor has figured out how!
Befriending the cows
Trevor and his mom live with her friend, who works on a farm. They rescued a baby cow named Mooriel.
Since Trevor follows his mom everywhere, it was only a matter of time before he met Mooriel during one of her bottle feedings. Seeing his mom’s attention on other animals, he was instantly jealous.
But, he was also curious. His mom let him come closer to see what she was doing, and Trevor observed as this large, spotted cat received pets and attention.
This was his mom, not Mooriel’s! Despite his jealousy, Trevor was never afraid of Mooriel or the other cows, and eventually he befriended them. Now, he enjoys bossing them around.
Trevor also likes to graze on grass with his cow friends. He rubs on them and they lick him in return, but when he’s fed up, he’ll sometimes slap the cows seemingly out of nowhere.
“That’s just not cool buddy,” his mom said, but the cows kept returning to Trevor despite his sassiness. They seem to enjoy interacting with him, and Trevor’s mom says they’re very understanding with him.
Trevor loves other animals but doesn’t always understand boundaries, or the value of not picking on someone larger than you! Sometimes, the humans have to step in to stop the cows from becoming annoyed.
The value of cats
Trevor doesn’t just help his mom with farm work. Like many people, she’s seen a positive effect on her mental health since adopting a cat. In fact, science even shows that having a cat can help to reduce stress and anxiety, amongst other benefits to a person’s mental and physical health.
Trevor’s mom calls him her best friend and the reason she gets up each morning. She has anxiety and PTSD, which can make leaving the house a struggle, but Trevor helps. Despite his tiny size, he’s brave and bold, confidently interacting with animals several times his size. This inspires his mom, who says, “If my cat can do it, I can do it too!”
