Best Food For Himalayan Cats
The Himalayan cat is a long haired cat that has characteristics related to crossing the Siamese cat with the Persian cat. It’s considered to be part of the Persian family. It is one of the few breeds of cats that are actually sociable and affectionate, not to mention how smart, loyal and cuddly they are.

Even though we love spoiling our Himalayans, we must be practical some times and there are days when we just don’t have the time to fix our cat something. This is why we went out and did some research, to recommend you the best wet and dry food options for your Himalayan cat.

#5 The Honest Kitchen Grain-Free Turkey Cat Food

One of the best things about having a cat that comes indoors is spending more time with them. The Honest Kitchen foods allow you to make the most out of mealtime. This is a dehydrated food, so you’ll need to mix in warm water and let it sit for a few minutes before serving it to your cat.

Grace by The Honest Kitchen contains 70% cage-free turkey, making it a nourishing high quality protein choice for your meat-loving cat. The recipe contains pumpkin, which is a good fiber containing food often used as a home remedy for hairballs.

This food wasn’t made specifically with indoor cats in mind and is high in calories, so make sure to watch the portion sizes when feeding it to a less-active cat.

All of the ingredients are human-grade and minimally processed.

Ingredients

Dehydrated Turkey, Dehydrated Eggs, Dehydrated Pumpkin, Dehydrated Potatoes, Dried Parsley, Dehydrated Kale, Dried Cranberries, Minerals [Tricalcium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Potassium Iodide, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Sodium Selenite], Taurine, Vitamins [Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), D- Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin D3 Supplement].

#6 Stella & Chewy’s Freeze-Dried Raw Absolutely Rabbit Dinner Morsels Cat Food Review

While it’s unclear whether or not digestive enzymes naturally found in raw meat have any positive health effects, the body of anecdotal evidence pointing to a correlation between a raw diet and improved digestive health makes it worth a try.

Because it’s made from rabbit, which is a novel protein, this formula from Stella and Chewy’s is perfect for cats with food allergies. The food is supplemented with probiotics to encourage digestive and immune health. It’s freeze-dried, so you don’t have to worry about it spoiling on the shelf.

#7 Wysong Optimal Vitality Adult Feline Formula Dry Cat Food

Wysong Optimal Vitality is a high-quality dry food with a strong balance of macro-nutrients necessary for keeping your cat healthy. This food contains brown rice and potato protein near the top of the ingredient list.

That’s not exactly the equivalent of a teaspoon of partially-digested grass in the stomach of a mouse. In fact, when we take a closer look at the nutrient analysis, we see that this food is over 40% carbohydrate, including fiber, on a dry matter basis. At 40% protein, the food is relatively high in the protein cats require, but a good chunk of it comes from plant sources. Its 18% fat content is on the lower end of the spectrum.

They justify the food’s plant content by explaining that “small quantities of fruits and vegetables mimic what may be consumed in the viscera of prey, and contribute important vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients.”

Ingredients

Chicken Meal, Organic Chicken, Turkey Meal, Pea Protein, Potato Protein, Peas, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Flaxseeds, Dried Plain Beet Pulp, Natural Flavor, Sesame Seeds, Montmorillonite Clay, Crab Meal, Dried Whey, Coconut Oil, Chia Seeds, Salt, Taurine, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Propionate (a preservative), Dried Tomato Pomace, Choline Chloride, Yeast Extract, Organic Barley Grass Powder, Dried Blueberry Powder, Dried Yogurt, Dried Kelp, Apple Pectin, Dried Kale, Dried Spinach, Dried Carrots, Fish Oil, Citric Acid (a preservative), Inulin, Mixed Tocopherols (a preservative), Rosemary Extract, Yeast Culture, Minerals (Potassium Chloride, Zinc Proteinate, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Iron Proteinate, etc…

Food Allergies

Diagnosing health conditions is an important step that is necessary for keeping your Himalayan healthy. Himalayan cats, along with any other cat breed, can be susceptible to food allergies. It can be difficult to determine if your Himalayan cat is suffering because of food allergies found in its diet, but symptoms can include:

  • Itchy skin
  • Skin lesions (redness, sores)
  • Dull, dry coat
  • Bloating
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting

If you suspect that your feline is suffering from food allergies, use a method similar to diagnosing human food allergies; conduct controlled food tests. Conduct a food trial of at least 6 weeks with a novel protein diet (rabbit, venison, turkey) or with a hypoallergenic diet. It can take a while to find a diet that works for your Himalayan cat. Consult your veterinarian if the allergies aren’t resolving.

Himalayan cats can be prone to brachycephalic upper airway syndrome due to their flat faces. This might cause breathing difficulties. They’re also prone to hip dysplasia. For both of these conditions, obesity can worsen the symptoms so try to keep your Himalayan cat at a healthy weight.

This can be done by following the feeding guidelines on the back of the food packaging, monitoring their weight and their body condition score. Contact your veterinarian if you’re concerned about your Himalayan’s weight.

Note: The values in our nutrient charts are automatically calculated based on the guaranteed analysis and may not represent typical nutrient values. This may lead to discrepancies between the charts and the values mentioned in the body of the review.
