When Julia Davis saw the connection between her pets Finn and Remy, she knew she had to keep her foster kitten for the dog’s sake! She imagined Remy searching the apartment for Finn after he left, and couldn’t bear to see that happen.
This ended up being the right decision, as it led to adopting even more cats and finding an online community when she needed one most.
Remy and Finn
In 2020, Julia was feeling isolated and sad after her college graduation ceremony was cancelled for the third time. She needed a distraction from missing school and her friends.
That’s when she saw Remy on the local news. She had a gunshot wound on the side of her face, and needed someone to adopt her.
Julia couldn’t get her off her mind. She was soon applying to be her mom, and then adopting her.
When Remy seemed lonely, she considered adopting a cat, but Julia’s mom convinced her to foster instead. She called the shelter and was picking up a couple of four week old kittens just one hour later!
Finn didn’t get along with his sister, Fiona, who was eventually adopted by Julia’s best friend. However, he did form a special bond with Remy. Julia calls them “Remy and Remy’s cat, Finn.”
Adding more cats to the family
Not long after, Julia moved to a new house where she found a cat living in the chicken coop! She was soon adopting Coop and two more cats, Roof and CJ (Coop Jr.) who she also found outside.
Finn is an only child at heart, she says, and would’ve been happy with only her and Remy for company. He does mostly tolerate the other cats, though he’s determined to be the boss. “We call him slappy,” Julia says. He’s the smallest cat in the house, but also the fiercest!
The coop kitty community
Julia gained an online following after posting about her cat, Coop, and then her other pets. Social media gave her a much-needed community in uncertain times, and she and her followers have come together to help even more animals and people, through fundraising and fostering.
She’s learned that community can exist in so many places, including online! Sometimes, you find what you need where you least expect it.
You can join the community on TikTok, where Julia is currently fostering kittens and teaching her cats to walk on a walking pad.
