Some cats on social media capture your heart immediately, and I have to admit that Dobby and his wonky tooth immediately won me over! His bottom tooth sticks adorably out of his mouth, gives him a unique and silly face that’s difficult not to fall in love with.

No one knows for sure what happened to Dobby’s tooth, only that it doesn’t seem to hurt him, and he can still eat and drink normally. Dobby’s dad spoke with us more about his cat, from theories about his tooth to the way he’s provided him with comfort during times of grief.

The Most Adorable Tooth Ever!

One of Dobby’s bottom teeth protrudes from his mouth, giving him the sweetest appearance. It really sticks out against his black fur!

His dad says Dobby’s vets have two theories. It’s possible that he was born this way, but he also could’ve been dropped as a kitten.

Either way, it isn’t slowing him down today. It’s a unique quirk that doesn’t stop him from eating, drinking, or living life like any other cat. His dad adopted Dobby at two years old, and now he’s thirteen! He describes him as “very old and lazy,” and says he prefers doing his own thing rather than cuddling or sitting in laps.

Comforting Dad During Hard Times

Since Dobby can be pretty aloof, his dad was surprised when he decided to offer comfort to him during a hard time in life.

Flopsy the rabbit was adopted around the same time as Dobby arrived, but sadly he passed away in 2022. His dad loved him very much, and grieved his loss.

In the two days after Flopsy’s death, Dobby stayed at his dad’s side. Not cuddling, but providing the companionship that only an animal can.

His dad thinks that Dobby must’ve known something was wrong, and he’s probably right! Cats are known to sense human emotions, and can even learn to read our facial expressions. Many cats spend more time around their humans when the humans are sad.

If they’re close to other animals or humans, cats can even go through their own grieving period. (Although cats and rabbits should always be housed separately!)

Cats Care More Than You Might Think!

When Dobby started spending more time with his dad, “It kind of made me realize that he does actually care,” he said. He might like his alone time, but like most cats, Dobby doesn’t want to see his human upset.

Cats are often depicted as uncaring creatures who don’t feel love toward their humans, but most cat parents know this isn’t true. Cats aren’t always as affectionate or excitable as dogs, but they can form strong bonds with both people and other animals.

The key is to have patience, respect your cat’s boundaries, and move forward at their pace. Learning cat body language is a great step toward bonding with your cat.

After this, it helps to find out how your cat prefers interacting with you. Are they a lap cat, or would they rather get chin scritches while sitting beside you on the couch? Or, maybe they prefer to bond through play!

As Dobby’s dad says, cats can provide you with many years of companionship and love. Every moment spent together is priceless!
