Traditional clay cat litter is all many cat owners know – they don’t realize there is an alternative or even a reason to consider one. The fact of the matter is that many commercial cat litters contain large amounts of silica dust which can trigger respiratory issues in cats and humans.
Commercial cat litters also frequently contain chemical fragrances and other additives that can irritate your cat’s sensitive nose and skin.
The problem with many alternative litters is that they don’t stand up against clay litter in terms of performance for things like clumping action and odor control. If you’re looking for a natural alternative to clay litter that still offers similar benefits for clumping and odor control, sWheat Scoop is definitely one to consider.

Brand Overview
The sWheat Scoop brand got its start in 1994 when a local Minnesota family set out to create an alternative to clay cat litter. The result was sWheat Scoop, the first all-natural cat litter on the market.
A full 25 years later, the company calls itself “Mother Nature’s cat litter” and continues to be farmer-owned and farmer-grown. This brand is dedicated to providing pet parents with healthy, natural products to give their cats the best life possible.
As an all-natural cat litter, sWheat Scoop saves pet parents from worrying about the harmful effects of clay and silica dust.
By combining their knowledge of sustainable farming practices and natural product development, the sWheat Scoop company continues to develop innovative products that would make Mother Nature herself proud.
sWheat Scoop cat litter uses natural wheat enzymes and starches to enhance clumping and lock away odors. In fact, all of sWheat Scoop’s ingredients are biodegradable and come from renewable resources so everything they take from the earth can go right back into it.

What Kinds Of Litter Does The Brand Offer?

Every ingredient is biodegradable, flushable, and made from renewable resources so everything that is taken from the earth can go right back into the ground.
The three formulas sWheat Scoop has to offer are fast-clumping, multi-cat, and premium+. Positive Customer Reviews For sWheat Scoop Cat Litter
“Right now best cat litter out there. Controlled odor, I should know we have 6 indoor cats! Dust is not as bad as others, there isn’t a litter that is 100% dust free. I have tried them all. Great job Swheat Scoop!” – by Garrison, reviewing sWheat Scoop Multi-Cat Natural Wheat Cat Litter on 30 Mar 2025
“It works extremely well and I love that it’s good for the environment and doesn’t hurt my boy because of its low dust ratio.” – by Christine, reviewing sWheat Scoop Natural Fast-Clumping Wheat Cat Litter on 15 Mar 2025
Negative Customer Reviews For sWheat Scoop Cat Litter
“When I opened the chewy box, I noticed a bunch of loose litter. I didn’t think too much of it cause it’s not uncommon for a little litter to come out. Once I went to grab the bag out of the box I noticed a flaw on both sides of the bag under the flaps. They were both open. This doesn’t seem to be a shipping issue. It’s identical on both side under where the bag folds under the resealable top. Litter went everywhere. I dont know if this is a flaw with all the bags, but this is causing the litter to leak out everywhere.” – by Rachel, reviewing sWheat Scoop Multi-Cat Natural Wheat Cat Litter on 5 Mar 2025
“I have used sWheat Scoop Unscented Clumping Litter for 5 years and was perfectly satisfied. Had no reason to try anything else. That is, until it was listed as ‘temporarily unavailable’ last time I needed to restock. As an alternative, I ordered this ‘Original’ and find it highly objectionable. Ir leaves my cat’s bathroom area smelling strongly of utine. I will not order it again.” – by Amy, reviewing sWheat Scoop Natural Fast-Clumping Wheat Cat Litter on 2 Mar 2025
How Much Does sWheat Scoop Cat Litter Cost?
Natural cat litters tend to cost more than traditional clay litter, but that doesn’t mean clay litters can’t be expensive.
In fact, sWheat Scoop is priced similar to some of the mid-range clay litters we’ve reviewed. All three formulas are priced between $0.75 and $1.00 per pound when you purchase the largest size. You can save even more by buying online with an auto-ship discount.
Overall, Is sWheat Scoop Cat Litter A Good Choice?
We can’t say that sWheat Scoop performs as well as some of the natural cat litters we’ve tried, but it does offer some unique benefits that make it worth trying. The fact that it is flushable and biodegradable is a major bonus, and it is also very lightweight and, generally speaking, very affordable. It could be better for odor control, but with frequent scooping, it does just fine.
One thing to be mindful of with this brand is that while some of the recipes are marketed for multiple cat homes, the odor-fighting power may be reduced if you have more than one cat using the litter box. At the very least, you’ll need to scoop the box more frequently to keep the litter fresh. Make sure to provide one litter box per cat with at least one extra.
All three of sWheat Scoop’s formulas are biodegradable and flushable. This makes your job of cleaning the litter box much easier – you should also be able to use a standard litter scoop with this litter. Many cat owners like to keep their litter box in the bathroom so they can quickly and easily scoop directly from the box into the toilet for disposal.
Where Is sWheat Scoop Cat Litter Sold?
sWheat Scoop Cat Litter is sold online and in pet stores. You can find it for sale from online retailers like Chewy and Amazon as well as big box stores like Walmart and Target as well as local and national pet stores such as PetSmart and Petco.
