Those of us who’ve harness-trained our cats know that walking a cat isn’t like walking a dog. Cats tend to meander, and often go where they want to go rather than heeling at your side.
They might even be like Ciri the adventure cat, whose walks look more like dragging her mom from tree to tree and climbing as high as she can!
Climbing Trees and Exploring the World

Ciri loves to climb trees, and sometimes goes as far as 10 feet before her mom has to coax her back down. If she lets her climb too high, she’s afraid that Ciri will get stuck and she won’t be able to grab her!
Since she was adopted at just 10 weeks old, Ciri has always been a curious little explorer. She’s talkative, energetic, and a busybody. If she has nothing to do, she’ll find a way to cause trouble, whether it’s climbing things she shouldn’t or getting into boxes around the house.
She’s the perfect fit for her mom, who adopted her shortly after her last cat passed away. She says that she knew she wanted to build an even deeper bond with her next cat, and her dream was to train Ciri so that she could take her on outings.
For Ciri, these adventures provide much-needed mental stimulation, giving her an outlet for her energy and preventing boredom.
Training an Adventure Cat

Ciri has always been curious and boisterous. She loves being around people, especially her family, and has loved exploring new things since she was small.
She has the perfect personality for an adventure cat, but her mom also put a lot of work into harness training and socialization. She’s the first cat her mom has trained, so she took a lot of inspiration from other cat parents on social media who’ve shared their own methods and techniques.
She started off with harness training, and soon moved into clicker training to help Ciri learn. Her interest in cat training and providing enrichment for Ciri soon spread to learning more about cat behavior and nutrition as well, which she says has been very interesting.
Even better, she’s been able to bond with Ciri and learn her unique quirks. One of her favorite things about Ciri is that when she’s happy, she makes biscuits standing up. It looks like she’s doing a little dance!
Ciri also has an expression where the bottom of her mouth gets more rounded, which she only does when she’s getting attention or treats. Her family knows it means that she’s happy!
When she’s not climbing trees, Ciri loves to adventure on flat terrain, where she can jog straight ahead without any obstacles in her way.
Ciri’s story shows us that cat enrichment isn’t only beneficial for cats. It also helps us as cat parents strengthen our bond with them, and can be a lot of fun for us as well!
