Kittens can be found in the strangest of places! Bones and Bonito are a perfect example, found in the back of a car workshop hiding in the tires.

It wasn’t a safe place for kittens, so the man who found them decided to bring them home and see if they could be socialized. Now, he’s their dad!

Hiding Amongst the Cars

Bones and Bonito were found hiding amongst old, broken cars in a workshop. There were lots of things for them to get into and play with!

Their dad started looking for them every day to see what they were up to, but they wouldn’t let him get close. He started feeding them lunch meat, hoping to get on friendly terms with the cats.

At the time, he didn’t know if they’d remain outdoor shop cats, or if they could be socialized and given a home. But their mom wasn’t anywhere to be found and, in the end, he didn’t think it was the safest environment for such young kittens to be in.

He decided to go in on a weekend when there wouldn’t be people working, and found the kittens resting out in the open. At this point, they’d grown very fond of their lunch meat snacks! He was able to use that to his advantage, setting scraps of it into a couple of cat traps and waiting for them to take the bait.

He’d never trapped an animal like that before, but thankfully, the kittens were easily fooled. He brought them home and kept them in their own room, since they couldn’t yet be around his two resident cats. He describes them as “the dirtiest cats I’ve ever seen,” and also very spicy since they hadn’t been in contact with humans before.

While caring for them, he learned their unique personalities and decided to keep them for himself.

Bones and Bonito are still just as inseparable today as they were as kittens. Whether they’re napping in the sun or helping each other wash behind their ears, they’re always together!

Bones is the stronger personality of the two, according to their dad. He’s chaos in cat form, stealing any food in sight and literally bouncing off the walls.

His dad has learned to lock him in another room while they’re eating and store his food securely off of the countertops.

While he can be a trouble-maker, he’s also super affectionate and loves to cuddle.

Bonito has a calmer personality, sweet but incredibly skittish. He’s friendly toward other cats, but doesn’t do as much cuddling with humans as Bones.

That doesn’t mean Bonito doesn’t get into his own mischief, however. Once, he escaped his indoor life and evaded his dad for a week! During that time, he left food inside to lure Bonito home and ended up with various other creatures in his house, including a skunk and a raccoon!

Eventually, Bonito poked his little head through the cat door, and his dad was able to snatch him up.

Despite their differences, both cats have grown on their dad. “They’re some of the best cats I’ve ever met,” he says, though he tries not to play favorites.

They’ve also made him more patient and flexible. He’s learned to work with their quirks and set them up for success, and doesn’t care as much about little things like cats jumping on the counters. It’s their house too, and he wants them to have fun!
