Cezanne the Cat Loves to Take Showers with His Dad

Imagine being in the shower like normal, then feeling little paws atop your head! Jack’s cat Cezanne surprised him one day by standing on top of the shower door, then using his head as a stepping stone to drink the running water.

Cezanne had always liked to drink from faucets, but this was a hilarious and startling development! Now, Cezanne regularly follows him into the shower.

Adopting kittens from an accidental litter

Jack and his husband were looking to adopt a cat when a friend of theirs adopted a pregnant mama cat by mistake. She gave birth to five kittens. Once they were old enough, they decided to adopt two–one orange and one black, both boys. Cezanne was that black kitten!

Six months later, they’d adopt a third orange cat from the same litter… and then two more from different sources. Those living in multi-cat households know how quickly “cat math” can add up!

Cezanne’s unique personality

Every cat is a unique individual, often with silly quirks that make their humans’ lives interesting!

As you can tell from his takeover of his dad’s showers, Cezanne runs his household with a firm paw. He’s talkative and loves to demand attention. He also tells his humans when he wants the water turned on so that he can drink from the sink or shower.

Often he will carry a toy to his humans as payment, meowing loudly to get their focus on him.

A new showering routine

A new showering routine

Since Cezanne first learned that he could drink from the showerhead by climbing on Jack’s head, Jack has adapted to a new shower routine.

Cezanne will climb atop the shower door and beckon Jack closer, before putting his front paws on his head and reaching for his drink. He’ll also meow at him if he’s not quick to cooperate!

Jack says that if he moves around too much for Cezanne’s liking, he’ll tug on his hair to make him stop.

Cezanne is also finicky about the temperature of the water. Strangely, he likes it warm! If the water is cold, he bats at it with his paws as though testing the temperature, then refuses to drink it. Of course, this spoiled cat seems to get his way more often than not.

Jack says that Cezanne’s fascination with running water started when they introduced him to the sink as a kitten. It’s common for cats to prefer running water, which is why some people buy cat fountains for them to drink from. However, it’s a bit more unique to like warm water, as most cats–like most people–prefer a cold, refreshing drink. It’s also common for cats to like room temperature water.

Have you ever experimented with which water temperature your cat prefers? Perhaps if we all gave our cats warm water like Cezanne, we’d find that more of them like it than we think. Though, I’m not too sure about letting mine climb on my head!

You can keep up with Cezanne’s adventures and see his entire cat family on their Instagram.
