Why Nom Nom?

For decades, cat food options have been limited to kibble and canned foods, which are sometimes formulated with potentially harmful chemicals and artificial ingredients.

In order to bind together ingredients, kibble recipes include high portions of carbohydrates, which cats don’t need.

Canned cat food is no better, often containing traces of chemicals from the interior lining of the cans, which is less than ideal for cats to consume long-term.

Nom Nom for cats provides two delicious and nutritious recipes: Flavorful Fish Feast and Chicken Chow-Meow, both formulated by Dr. Shmalberg. Since the formula is not processed, made in small batches and is made with whole foods, it retains more nutrients.

The nutrient balance in the food adds many benefits to cats internal and external health, including:

  • More energy – Nom Nom is more digestible meaning the food is absorbed and used for energy.
  • Shinier coat, healthier skin, brighter eyes – The vitamins, minerals and nutrients in the formulas are known to help with a healthier coat, skin, and eyes.
  • Healthier immune system –This fresh food is rich in all-natural vitamins, such as A, C and zinc. These nutrients help your cat’s immune system stay strong and healthy.
  • Less waste – Since there are no fillers, there will be less poop. Every ingredient is made to give cats the nutrients they need so they can use more of the food.
  • Better hydration – Cats get most of their water intake from the foods they eat. If their diet lacks moisture, they usually won’t make it up by drinking more. These meals are moisture rich to ensure your cat stays hydrated.

How It Works?

To get started with Nom Nom, you will need to create a profile for your cat, which asks you to provide their current weight, target weight, and protein selection. You will be notified via email when your order ships and provided a tracking number.

Next, you will receive a shipment with samples of the food options they offer but you can always go back and change that. You are able to rotate your cat’s food choices before each delivery.

After you have chosen your cat’s favorite flavor, you will receive monthly shipments of 56 individual packets of food, which arrive fresh, and packed with ice packs to keep it cool. If you prefer a shorter delivery time frame, Nom Nom has two automatic delivery options.

One option is for weekly deliveries, and one for the monthly deliveries as mentioned. The weekly deliveries come with a shipment of 14 meal packs, which is two meals per day.

They do recommend that you put the food packets in the freezer and take out when needed. When it’s time to eat, just open the package and serve. You may want to heat it up a little bit in the microwave if your cat is picky about cold food.

Managing your account is simple and you can log in to pause your subscription up to two weeks in advance or your next two deliveries.

You can also request extra meals for travel or have meals delivered to a different address. If you need to cancel your subscription you will have to call or email customer service, fortunately they are very responsive.

Experience

I was sent a sample box of Nom Nom cat food in exchange for an unbiased review.

Nom Nom Cat Food image2

Opening the box, I noticed how well it was packed with cooling packs. The pouches of food were neatly organized with rubber bands inside of the box and very cold. The box contained additional items like chicken jerky, for when your cat deserves a healthy treat.

I also received a flavor packet and container of beef broth which are used to help finicky eaters by mixing it with their food. The shipment also included a handy instruction booklet that included nutritional information and suggestions on transitioning your pets to the Nom Nom food.

What is included in the shipment box:

  • 14 meals packs of Flavorful Fish Feast
  • 1 bag of Chicken Jerky
  • 1 bottle of Beef Broth
  • 1 Flavor Packet
  • Instruction Booklet
  • Cute Magnet for feedings

Flavorful Fish Feast Review

NOMNOMNOW-1-065_Edited fish recipe

Upon opening the food packet, I immediately noticed the fresh, natural salmon restaurant-quality aroma.

This recipe is made with two kinds of fish, beef fat, a mix of vitamins and nutrients, as well as some vegetables. The best part is that you can see the ingredients in the packet that are listed on the label.

  • Tilapia – Protein, vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids for a luxurious coat
  • Salmon – More omega-3s, vitamins, and minerals—plus a tasty flavor cats love
  • Beef fat – A source of choline and unsaturated fatty acids for a healthy coat and skin
  • Cassave Root- Calcium, vitamin C, and minerals galore for strong bones
  • Carrot – Beta carotene serves as an antioxidant
  • NomNomNutrient Mix – dicalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, salt, citric acid (natural preservative), taurine, choline bitartrate, zinc gluconate, ferrous sulfate, vitamin E supplement, copper gluconate, manganese gluconate, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), selenium yeast, riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin B12 supplement, cholecalciferol (source of vitamin D3), sodium iodide.

Now for the taste test. Jax is far from a picky eater, but I was concerned this food may be too upscale for him. I did warm it up for a few seconds in the microwave, knowing Jax does not like cold food. When I first placed the bowl of food down, he sniffed it and walked away.

He did eventually circle back to the bowl after demanding some attention. He seemed to really like it. He is usually a snack type of eater, but he did not let his attention waiver from the bowl.

He dug his face in and happily ate all the food, including the veggies. Since this recipe included fish and beef fat, I knew he would come to love it.

After several days of feedings, Jax now lays in front of the refrigerator in anticipation. He has more energy and his coat is shinier. He now refuses to even look at his kibble even when left out for daytime snacks.

Nom Nom Pros and Cons:

What’s Good About It?

  • Smells and looks like real food, not smelly cat food.
  • Recipes are made from only a handful of ingredients: meat, vegetables, healthy oils, and a vitamin and nutrient blend.
  • Food is made in a FDA compliant kitchen and not mass produced
  • Easy open pouch you can simply tear open.
  • Great option for those who want to provide home-made cat food but lack the time.

What Is Not So Good?

  • Above market cost. A week’s worth of fresh cat food will cost you $35.89 a week for an average size cat, whereas most Premium  or “holistic” cat foods on average, costs between $12 and $25 for a week.
  • They only offer two recipes for cats, chicken and fish.
  • The food must be kept cold until served. This could make travel difficult.

Conclusion

Nom Nom provides pet owners and pets with everything they need, like an easy to use website, customized pet profiles, high quality ingredients and flexible delivery schedules.

I was impressed with the healthy ingredients as well as the generous portion sizes and Jax seemed to agree. If you are searching for human grade, cooked to order meals for your cat, but don’t mind paying a premium price, I recommend Nom Nom. The prices maybe on the higher side, but the quality and ease of it are worth it, if it fits your budget.
