Everyone loves a couple of unlikely animal companions, and none are sweeter than Missy the Pit Bull and her cat friend, Pumpkin!
These two former strays were friends from the moment Pumpkin began joining Missy’s daily walks. Now, they’re inseparable.
Love at first sight
When Pumpkin saw Missy for the first time, he must’ve known that they were destined to be BFFs. He immediately came running to her side and joined her and her dad on their walk, following them all the way home.
Their dad knew of Pumpkin and had been leaving out food for him, but he never planned to introduce the animals. They made that decision all on their own!
Of course, he thought it was adorable. He didn’t realize that as time went on, the animals would only grow closer.
Sharing food–and a past
Something special that the two share is cat food! Pumpkin will drop food from the counter to share with Missy, who waits patiently for her share.
They also love to share naps, snuggled up together on the floor. Pumpkin grooms Missy as well, seeming entirely dedicated to taking care of her however he can.
Pumpkin still tries to join Missy on her walks as well. Their dad has to make sure he’s locked inside of the house so he doesn’t run out after them!
While their dad doesn’t believe they knew each other on the streets, he does think that their shared past is why they understand each other so well. He found Missy as a stray running loose in his neighborhood, where the city had set out traps to catch her.
Her dad and his partner at the time were afraid of what the city would do if they caught her, since she’s a Pit Bull and they often don’t fare well in shelters. They took her in with the intent to foster her, but quickly fell in love.
Eight months later, Pumpkin came along. Their dad thinks they saw something special in one another, and the trust they have is remarkable. He says it was incredible to see their relationship develop, watching them work together and taking care of one another.
They’ve also changed his life for the better. He thinks that we as humans can learn a lot from animals’ resilience and their unconditional love for one another, which can be found in the unlikeliest of places.
