After nine years in their parents’ business, the twins launched a pet food company of their own.
Against the Grain focuses on grain-free, meat-based foods and claims to make food that’s “second to none, and completely unique, revolutionary, evolutionary, nutritious, and wholesome”.
Sourcing and Manufacturing
While Against the Grain dog food is made in the United States in a company-owned facility, all Against the Grain cat food is made by a manufacturing partner in Thailand. Their ingredients are primarily sourced in and around Thailand.

Positive Reviews
“Perfect portion size and apparently quite tasty…says the cat!” – by Heidi O reviewing Against the Grain Tuna Mango Tango with Duck Dinner Grain-Free Wet Cat Food January 30, 2025
“3 picky cats, two love it and one eats it. Can’t please them all LOL. I keep it stocked” – G. Bartlett, reviewing Against the Grain Chicken & Pumpkin Samba Dinner on July 23, 2024
Negative Reviews
“I bought this only because Paws N Play was out of both the Against the Grain Chicken Polyhauai’I Berry that my cat loves AND this Caribbean Club Chicken Cheese, the closest second. At Paws N Play I was paying $26 for a case of 24, 2.8 oz. cans which was bad enough. But $33????
The first thing I noticed when this arrived is that the can size has shrunk from 2.8 oz to 2.3 oz. Deceptive. Second was that one of the cans arrived badly banged up, but oh well. Third was how dry the chicken meat was. Probably using chickens older than me lol! But worst of all, the pet food industry has become a total ripoff, and I have decided I can no longer abide their 300+% mark up game. Not when it’s become pricier to feed my cat than me.
Let’s do the math: this stuff comes out to be $9.59/lb. I can get Costco Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast for $3.09/lb. Yep, you read that right. Don’t buy into the “but your fur baby won’t be getting it’s necessary vitamins” B.S. If people can get their vitamins from their food (and chicken is already high in B vitamins, choline, potassium, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, calcium and selenium), so can our pets. Without all the gums and other crap the pet food industry adds. So, that’s what I’m going to do. Maybe if more people followed suit, the multi-billion $ pet food industry would get a much needed wake up call.” – R.U. Reddy, reviewing Against the Grain Chicken & Pumpkin Samba Dinner on September 6, 2024
“Neither of my cats will eat this. I have to mix small amounts of it in with their other food to get them to eat it.” – Tia, reviewing Against the Grain Chicken & Pumpkin Samba Dinner on February 4, 2024
How Much Does Against the Grain Cat Food Cost?
Against the Grain cat food is a little more expensive than the average cat food. According to the company’s feeding guidelines of three cans or tubs per day for a 10-lb cat, it would cost from $3.10 to over $5 per day. This puts it among some of the most expensive brands on the market, including Weruva, Tiki Cat, and Nom Nom.
Overall, Is Against the Grain a Good Choice?
Although Against the Grain doesn’t claim to use human-grade ingredients and tends to include more plant ingredients than Weruva or Tiki Cat, the three brands are similar.
Like Weruva and Tiki Cat, Against the Grain foods are rich in meat and loaded with protein, making them a species-appropriate pick for your carnivore. Though their recipes nail carnivore-appropriate protein content, they tend to be a bit lean. You might want to rotate Against the Grain with another fattier food.
Where To Buy Against the Grain Cat Food?
You can buy Against the Grain cat food in independent pet retailers and online through stores including Amazon and Chewy.
No taurine added as far as I can tell which is not good
Hello. The last food, the one with mango. What is the carb content on dry matter b? I think you mention it’s moderate carb but I don’t see carbs on the pie chart. I also have this food available relatively easy & at a great price but I just want to make sure it is low carb especially now I know that tractor supply has issued a new formula on their 4health chicken in broth canned food & it’s no longer as low in carbs as it once was & also has by products now. My cat really liked it & Im trying to also break his fish addiction. Thank you for the very important work! 🙂
