Why Trust Cats.com

Being a new cat owner of 6-month-old Monty the Ragdoll, I quickly realised that litter box maintenance is one of the most important and challenging aspects of daily care. Living in a high-rise flat at the time meant that each day was a battle to keep odours to a minimum and to keep loose litter off the floor. I found myself constantly running back and forth between the litter box, the vacuum, and the bin.

I tried different types of litter with hopes of finding one that both controlled odour better and spread less, but with a young and somewhat confused kitten, this led to a few accidents. So when I finally moved to a house (with cream carpets), I knew I had to find a solution to the problem. These challenges ultimately led me to try the WeeKett Smart Cat Litter Box. A sleek, modern-designed automatic litter box with some great features.

WeeKett was founded in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2017. The brand name combines the local term ‘wee’, meaning ‘little’, with their flagship product, the Smart Kettle. They offer a range of home appliances, with the WeeKett Smart Cat Litter Box being a unique addition to their range. While WeeKett doesn’t yet have the long-established reputation of some premium competitors, it offers a comparable feature set at a more accessible price point, making it an appealing option for those exploring automatic litter boxes in the UK for the first time.

WeeKett Smart Cat Litter Box Features

WeeKett Smart Cat Litter Box Features

The WeeKett litter box has a rotating drum system that automatically separates waste from clean litter after each use. The 75L barrel means it can fit most cats, and the large 7L waste bin means it can store waste for up to two weeks, significantly reducing daily maintenance. Rather than the waste disposal bin being at the bottom of the machine, the WeeKett litter box cleverly sifts the soiled litter to the back of the device. This feature means that there is no large hole that your cat could crawl into, giving it that extra feeling of safety. The device also comes with a litter mat that you can place on the floor in front of it to catch any stray bits of litter.

One of the standout features of the WeeKett Smart Cat Litter Box is its app integration. You can choose from two different apps, Tuya or Smart Life, to connect your WeeKett device to, and the app itself helps you track your cat’s weight, frequency of litter box visits, and activity trends over time. This kind of data can help identify early health issues such as urinary problems or weight changes.

The app also features a ball bin light, which you can manually switch on at night, a UV sterilisation light that you can schedule or switch on manually, and helpful notifications for when it’s time to change the odour control jelly or when the waste bin is full. I found all of these features great, especially the full waste bin notification, as it meant I didn’t have to check each day.

I also liked that the app notifies you if you haven’t put the machine back together properly. This came in handy a few times when I was replacing the waste bin liner, as you have to make sure all components are sitting flush for the machine to work.

Safety is always a major concern with automatic litter boxes and rightly so. So it was important for me to test this over a longer period of time. I have been using the WeeKett for just over two months now, and I’m pleased with how it’s held up from a safety aspect. The WeeKett includes safety features like infrared sensors, weight detection, and an automatic pause when a cat enters. This prevents the cleaning cycle from running while your cat is inside.

Despite Monty using this every day, he still gets curious when the cleaning cycle begins, and he always has to have a look inside as it rotates. This made me apprehensive at first, but I found that any time he attempted to enter, the machine automatically stopped. I tested this multiple times before setting the machine on automatic, just to be sure that it wouldn’t turn whilst Monty was inside, and I was satisfied with the results.

Other than a couple of tiny movements sometimes when Monty jumped in, I didn’t notice any movement whatsoever, and with the added bonus of not having a waste bin hole at the bottom, I found that there was nowhere inside the machine he could get stuck anyway. That said, as with any automated device, supervision during the initial adjustment period is recommended.

In terms of odour control, I really liked that this came with an odour eliminator pack, which slots into the back of the machine where the waste bin is. I did find this quite effective for blocking any unwanted scents; however, it does run out every 14 days, which can become expensive to keep replacing. I tested using the machine without this for a month and opted instead to use the UV sterilisation light, which you can manually switch on or schedule, and I found that this was sufficient at keeping odours at bay. The sealed waste drawer also keeps unwanted scents well contained.

What we like:

  • Hands-free cleaning for up to two weeks
  • Automatically starts a cleaning cycle after your cat uses the litter box
  • Efficently sifts waste into a sealed container
  • Generously sized waste bin
  • Advanced sensors for extra safety
  • Free app with important health monitoring
  • Sleek and modern design
  • Comes with odour control and a litter mat
  • Ball bin light so your cat can easily see the litter box at night
  • Option to use the machine manually or automatically

What we didn’t like:

  • It can take a few attempts to get the waste bin components back on properly
  • The litter area could feel cramped for large cats
  • Odour eliminator ran out fast and needs replacing every 14 days

What Did Our Test Cats Think?

WeeKett litter box

The WeeKett litter box arrived almost fully assembled and had a litter liner already in it. All I had to do was place the waste bin components on the back of the machine properly, peel off any stickers, and follow the prompts in the app to connect it. The whole process took less than 5 minutes, and I like how easily the device was found on the app.

Despite never using an automatic litter box or a clay-based litter, Monty seemed to understand what it was for immediately. This was not only a pleasant surprise but a welcome relief after having a wobbly start to litter box training. He was able to get in and out of the machine without issue and he had enough space to dig around enthusiastically, like he always loves to do.

I found that the litter was sifted really well, leaving no mess behind. Also, the depth of the litter area really helped any excrement clump before it was sifted. Because of this, I also never had an issue with anything sticking to the inside liner, even when Monty briefly had a bout of diarrhea.

I did, however, find that getting the waste bin back on after swapping the litter liner was a little fiddly. It comes apart into three separate components: the bin itself, the bin cover and the rear cover of the machine. All of which slot into place using magnets. It sometimes took a few attempts to get everything aligned correctly before the machine recognised it and resumed operation (indicated by a green light). The app notified me when it was placed incorrectly, but I wish it were more specific about which part was causing the problem, as this could have helped me resolve the issue quicker.

One thing I wish this litter box had was a camera inside so you could more closely monitor your cat’s toilet behaviours. I found that when Monty had an upset tummy, it took me longer to notice than normal, as his poop was automatically cleaned before I had a chance to notice the diarrhea, so a camera inside would be helpful for this.

Overall, I was really pleasantly surprised by the WeeKett Smart Cat Litter Box. I love the design and look of the machine, along with all of the features and ease of use. I found it to be very useful when tackling litter box odours and the additional catch mat included with the machine did significantly reduce the amount of tracking around the house. While the weight scale at the moment does give some indication as to which cat is inside, I think in a multi-cat household, having an RFID reader added to this machine would be beneficial, so you can easily monitor each cat more accurately, I hope that in the future, this company decides to do more cat-focused appliances, as they really nailed their first one.

What Do Customers Think of the Weekett Smart Cat Litter Box?

As a newer product in the automatic litter box category, the WeeKett has a more limited pool of customer reviews compared to long-established brands. Early feedback generally highlights its value for money, particularly for those seeking a self-cleaning litter box without the higher price tag of premium models.

Users often mention improved cleanliness and reduced daily maintenance as key benefits. Some feedback points to minor issues such as app connectivity or the initial adjustment period, which are common considerations with most smart litter boxes.

Positive Reviews

Amazing! My 10-week-old kitten loved it from the very start. Smells for about 30 seconds, until the auto-cleaning starts. It’s lightweight and very quiet. When it needs washing, you can use the manual cleaning mode, and it empties everything out easily. andreea Reviewing WeeKett Smart Cat Litter Box on 26 December 2025

I recently purchased the WeeKett Smart Cat Litter Box, and I have to say, it has been a game changer for me and my furry friend! With its impressive 75L capacity, I love that I can go up to two weeks without having to manually clean the litter—definitely a lifesaver for busy days!
The smart safety features are fantastic. I feel at ease knowing that the child lock and weight sensors will pause the cleaning process if my cat jumps in, ensuring she stays safe and comfortable. It gives me such peace of mind!
One of my favorite aspects is the health monitoring feature available on the app. It’s great to be able to track my cat’s weight and litter usage, allowing me to catch any potential health issues early on. It feels like I’m being proactive about her health without adding extra stress to my routine.
Maintenance is a breeze too! The quiet self-cleaning mechanism operates seamlessly, and it has a UV sterilisation feature that keeps everything ultra clean and odour-free. Plus, it’s spacious enough for her to move around comfortably.

Overall, the WeeKett Smart Cat Litter Box blends modern convenience with smart pet care perfectly. As someone who values both functionality and my pet’s well-being, I highly recommend this product to any cat owner looking to simplify their life while keeping their kitty happy! Negative Reviews

I really really wanted this to be a game-changer but it wasn’t and I’ve had to return it.
As a concept it’s great – the tray sifts out spoiled waste into an airtight compartment, meaning no smell from the tray and reduced cleaning effort.
The result was somewhat different – every time the cat made a deposit, the entire tray was emptied into a tiny compartment that got full up before the tray was fully empty. I then would follow instructions for emptying and as soon as I opened up the compartment, there was a mound of litter and waste overflowing onto the floor. Then the mechanism would continue to empty into the compartment with no bag, so I’d have to manually clean that out.
Also, because the waste compartment filled up before the tray was empty, waste was left in the tray and so the terrible stench was the same as with any other normal litter tray.
I’ve ended up cleaning this out more than normal and getting through more litter than normal because usually, if the cat just does a solid, I’d scoop that out and the unsoiled litter would remain, but this tray just bins off everything.

There were some positives:

– SmartLife app recognised it immediately, very easy to rig up
– it was relatively quiet when whirring round to do the cleaning, so didn’t really scare the cats, just made them curious
– I just adopted 2 rescue cats and they immediately started using it, they went straight from using a regular tray to using this one without any issue.

Other people seem to have had a better experience than I have but for me, it was just a big mess and very wasteful of clean cat litter. Lit Reviewing WeeKett Smart Cat Litter Box on 26 December 2025

Overall, Is the Weekett Smart Cat Litter Box a Good Choice?

The WeeKett Smart Cat Litter Box offers a practical solution for cat owners looking to improve hygiene and reduce daily maintenance. It may not yet have the long-term reputation of more established brands, but it delivers meaningful, everyday improvements where they matter most. For some cat owners, the price tag may feel too high for a small brand new to the cat market, with no prior history of cat-related products. But in my experience, it was worth the gamble. It addressed the two main challenges I encountered as a new cat owner: lingering litter box smells and constant tracking.

While no litter box will eliminate maintenance entirely, it significantly reduces the time and effort required to keep the area clean. So for those considering an automatic litter box in the UK, the WeeKett presents a strong balance between functionality and affordability. They also frequently offer discounts on both Amazon and their website, so you might find that you can purchase the smart cat litter box for cheaper than the advertised £299.
