Are you searching for an automatic litter box for your large cat? This open-top model from Oneisall is a promising contender, with a host of safety sensors, a thoughtful design, and the largest tray I’ve personally seen on a self-cleaning litter box.

Overall Score: 3.8/5

However, no product is without its problems, and the Ease S1 self-cleaning litter box seems to be prone to technical issues. I tried the app-enabled Ease S1 Pro in my own home to see how well it scooped, how safe it was for cats, and whether I would experience any technological problems myself. Below is my honest review.

Why Trust Cats.com

I’m a lifelong cat owner who once had nine cats at once! I know what it’s like to scoop a dozen litter boxes every day, which means I also know what cat parents look for in a quality self-scooping litter box.

I’ve also tested several self-cleaning litter boxes for Cats.com, which allows me to compare the best and worst features of each.

While testing the Ease S1 self-cleaning litter box, I took notes on the assembly process, the reliability of the sensors, how well it scooped clumps of varying sizes, and more. Since my cats won’t use automatic litter boxes, I used workarounds for testing, which included creating “urine clumps” with a cup of water and purposefully triggering the sensors to test their safety.

Ease S1 Self-Cleaning Litter Box and Oneisall Overview

Ease S1 Self-Cleaning Litter Box and OneIsAll Overview

Oneisall is a pet technology company that was founded in 2012. Inspired by an abused rescue pup named Niuniu, founder Terry sought to design grooming clippers that were affordable, quiet, and offered a quality at-home grooming experience. The company has since gone on to sell air purifiers, cat water fountains, self-cleaning litter boxes, and more.

The Ease S1 self-cleaning litter box is designed to put pet safety first, with sensitive sensors that detect approaching cats from over three feet away. It was also designed for large cats, with an open-top litter tray measuring 15.43 x 15.16 inches.

Ease S1 Pro Self-Cleaning Litter Box Features

The Ease S1 self-cleaning litter box has motion, weight, and radar sensors to keep your cat safe. It stops scooping when a cat approaches, reducing the risk of your cat climbing in or getting pinched as it rotates.

For the sensors to work properly, Oneisall recommends placing the litter box on a flat, hard surface rather than carpet and leaving enough clearance around it.

The design continues to put cat welfare first with a large, open-top litter tray that’s great for cats of various sizes. Cat parents aren’t being left behind here, either–the litter box is simple to assemble, disassemble, and clean.

Its full-cover litter pad liner contains litter and messes, and slips out easily for deep cleaning. The litter sifter snaps on and off easily from the top, unlike other automatic litter boxes where you have to fidget with a messy sifter.

The large waste drawer holds up to 14 days of waste for one cat, but since it’s not sealed tightly, you may notice some odor build-up.

You can use most clumping litters, but for larger particles such as tofu pellets, you’ll want to purchase the 12mm sifting guard, which is sold separately.

Unfortunately, many customers (including myself) have faced mild to severe technical issues with this litter box. When it works, it’s great–but I’d strongly recommend having at least one other litter box in the home in case of malfunctions.

What We Like

  • Large, open-top litter tray measures 15.43” x 15.16”
  • Open design puts cat comfort first and accommodates cats of various sizes
  • Highly-sensitive motion, weight, and radar sensors to keep cats safe
  • Easy assembly and maintenance
  • Full-cover litter pad liner contains most messes and is simple to clean

What We Dislike

  • Machine pauses after sensors have been triggered multiple times and may require a reset before resuming
  • Liner doesn’t fit snugly to the litter tray, causing ripples that may be pierced by cat nails
  • Many customers experienced technical issues, including myself
  • Litter tray doesn’t self-empty, so you’ll have to dump the litter manually before deep cleaning

What Did Our Test Cats Think?

OneIsAll self-cleaning litter box

Katelynn Sobus / Cats.com

My first impression of the Oneisall self-cleaning litter box was that the sensors were incredibly sensitive. It wouldn’t scoop while I was sitting directly in front of it, and while testing the sensors, it wouldn’t let me get within about a foot before stopping. I could approach from the back, but any attempt to reach into the litter box triggered the sensors again.

Some reviewers seem to dislike this feature, but I like that Oneisall has put cat safety first! However, I did notice that if the sensors were triggered too many times, it could be difficult to get the litter box running again. I sometimes had to reset it multiple times before it would work.

Of course, during testing I was purposefully triggering the sensors, but I can also see this being a problem if you have a curious cat continually trying to approach the litter box as it scoops. If you’re not home to resolve the issue, you may return to a stuck litter box that hasn’t scooped itself–and perhaps is in a sideways position that doesn’t allow your cat to potty inside!

Putting the litter box together was simple, though I did notice some bubbling in the litter box liner and wish it had a tighter seal against the litter tray. I can see cats’ claws catching on the excess material and potentially tearing it over time.

During set-up, the app kept asking me to turn on a location setting that wasn’t on the settings screen it brought me to. After cancelling out of the pop-up, I was able to continue as normal, make my account, and connect the litter box with ease.

Despite these issues, there’s also a lot to like about this one! It’s an open-top box, which many cats may prefer over covered litter boxes, and it has a large litter tray to accommodate big cats.

Deep cleaning was much easier than cleaning the round drums that many automatic litter boxes come with. The boxy pieces were large and easy to wash, without any difficult-to-clean nooks and crannies.

The litter box doesn’t self-empty, but it is easy to tip into a garbage bin due to its shape.

Overall, I think the Oneisall self-cleaning litter box has a lot of potential and some excellent features! However, I did have a few tech issues with it–and some reviewers seemed to have an even more challenging time. This makes it difficult to recommend what is otherwise a really nice product.

What Do Customers Think of the Oneisall Self-Cleaning Litter Box?

Positive Reviews

“I have been looking for a long time for a large open box since my oldest cat is on the larger size but for the prices and the sizes I couldn’t commit to one. Once I saw this box size and the price I had to give it a try, it is so worth it. It is super easy to clean, it comes with lots of bags and the most important both my cats love it.” Anonymous Amazon Customer

“I love this litterbox!! My cats love it and the large, roomy, open tray seems to make them more apt to use it.” Patti VanGorden on Amazon

Reviewers like that the box is roomy and open-topped. They also like the price and how easy the litter box is to clean.

Some positive reviews praise customer service as well, though several reviewers mention needing technical support or even replacement products.

Negative Reviews

“This was working reasonably well for 3 months but now the clean button LED light won’t stop flashing white and it will no longer function. We’ve done all the troubleshooting strategies with zero resolution.” Anonymous Amazon Customer

“I have had this one for about a month now. Worked fine for a week. Now I am have to constantly unplug to rest it, a minimum of 5x a day. It is constantly getting stuck even with the sensors cleaned and empty bag.” Kk on Amazon

The main customer complaints seem to revolve around the sensors. Some people find them too sensitive, while others think that sensitivity helps keep cats safe.

Others have problems with the litter box refusing to rotate or getting stuck during cleaning, some of which seem to be resolved after cleaning the sensors.

Overall, Is The Ease S1 Self-Cleaning Litter Box a Good Choice?

Overall, this one has a lot of positive attributes, from its safety mechanisms to its open-top design. It’s designed with cat comfort in mind, is easy to clean, and did a great job during my testing.

Based on my own experience, I hesitate to recommend this for curious cats who may trigger the sensors multiple times in a row. Your machine may pause during scooping while you’re out of the house, which would especially cause problems if it’s the only litter box in the home.

It also seems common for customers to face technical issues, some of which were more difficult to resolve than my own. It’s definitely a risky purchase, and you may be better off buying a different open-topped litter box with fewer technical issues.
