About Goodest

Goodest is a new brand of wet cat food that is breaking into the pet food market in the Philippines. Most commercial pet food products in the Philippines are imported even if some of their ingredients, such as tuna, come from the area.

Like many parts of the world, the Philippines experienced a pet boom during the Covid pandemic. There was increased demand for cat food though a lockdown was in place. Century saw an opportunity to move ahead with developing their own brand of locally-made cat food during this period.

Century has manufactured other grocery and beverage products for over 40 years. It is among Forbes Asia magazine’s “2021 Best Under A Billion” list of 200 top-performing publicly listed small and mid-sized companies in the Asia-Pacific region.

Sourcing and Manufacturing

Goodest pet foods are made locally in General Santos City, the tuna capital of the Philippines and the manufacturing headquarters of General Tuna Corp., the export arm of Century Pacific Food Inc. (CNPF) which manufactures Goodest for General Odyssey Inc.

General Tuna Corp. has been in the food manufacturing business since 1999. They support programs on fish sustainability and environmental safety and conservation. They also participate in the International Seafood and Sustainability Foundation. The company has the following certifications and accreditations.

1. Food Safety

  • EU (European Union) Approved Plant
  • US FDA (United States Food and Drug Administration) Certified
  • CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) Certified
  • HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) Certified
  • IFS (International Food Standard)
  • BRC (British Retail Consortium)

2. Special Dietary Regulations

  • Halal Certified by IDCP (Islamic Da’wah Council of the Philippines)
  • Kosher Certified by OU (Orthodox Union)

3. Social Accountability

  • BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative)
  • SMETA (SeDex Members Ethical Trade Audit)

4. Sustainability and Conservation

  • MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) Certified
  • Dolphin Safe Certified by EII (Earth Island Institute)

The main ingredients used in Goodest cat foods are sourced from the Western Central Pacific Ocean, FAO Zone 71 (Food and Agriculture Organization). As you would guess, these ingredients include tuna and other seafood ingredients.

Goodest recipes meet AAFCO guidelines. They have been developed in conjunction with government-certified veterinarians. The formulas have been reviewed and approved by the Philippine Bureau of Animal Industry.

Has Goodest Cat Food Been Recalled?

We didn’t find any recalls for Goodest pet foods. Keep in mind that this is a very new brand. However, the companies involved in making Goodest have been making tuna and other products for many years.

What Kinds Of Food Does Goodest Offer?

At this time Goodest makes three wet cat food recipes. The foods come in 85-gram pouches.

The three flavors currently available include: Chicken Chomp (chicken meat is the first ingredient); Tender Tuna (tuna is the first ingredient); and Meaty Mackerel (sardine is the first ingredient, followed by tuna and then mackerel).

#1 Goodest Chicken Chomp cat food Review

The Philippines has its own independent food and pet food labeling system so the United States, the EU, and other governments have no control over how the country handles labels and information on foods made there. Goodest provides lots of information about their cat food on the brand web site but we had to go in search of the Guaranteed Analysis on the back of the pouch.

Goodest Chicken Chomp cat food is a chunks in gravy product. The food has a very high moisture content even for a wet cat food. The first ingredient is chicken meat but it includes tuna and beef liver, in case your cat has any problems with those proteins.

This recipe does include wheat gluten, soybean oil, coloring agents, and sugar. It also includes “gravy” which is not identified.

The meat and fish ingredients in this food may be very good quality considering the tuna that comes from this area as well as the certifications and accreditations of the manufacturer. However, you will need to balance that possibility with the use of some of the other ingredients in the food.

One of the selling points for Goodest is its low cost so you will need to take that into consideration. This is a budget food.

Goodest doesn’t provide calorie information but we estimate it has about 46 kcal per 100 grams.

Overall, we think the meat and fish ingredients are probably good in this food but some of the other ingredients are disappointing.

#2 Goodest Tender Tuna Cat Food Review

Made in the tuna capitol of the Philippines, we would expect Goodest cat food to have access to some of the best tuna in the Pacific. The manufacturer of Goodest cat food provides tuna for for one of the top three American brands of tuna as well as the top five Japanese retail tuna brands.

With that in mind, Goodest Tender Tuna cat food (pate) contains tuna as its main ingredient and its only animal protein. It meets AAFCO nutritional levels for all life stages. The food also contains added vitamins and minerals to make sure the food is complete and balanced. And, it has added DHA (a natural omega-3 fatty acid) which is beneficial for a cat’s brain and nervous system. DHA is especially important for young kittens.

The food also contains soybean oil, wheat gluten, and coloring agents which are considered less desirable.

This is a budget food that cats will probably enjoy because of the tuna. You will need to decide if the other ingredients matter enough to buy it or not.

Goodest doesn’t provide calorie information but we estimate it has about 46 kcal per 100 grams.

#3 Goodest Meaty Mackerel Pate with Chunks Cat Food Review

Goodest Meaty Mackerel is a slight misnomer for this food. Mackerel is actually the third ingredient. Ocean fish would probably be a better name. The fish in the food includes sardine and tuna as well as mackerel. White fish appears later in the list. These are all fish that cats usually like.

If your cat has problems with chicken, chicken by-products are the fourth ingredient.

After all this protein, the food does contain some ingredients that are less desirable such as soybean oil, wheat gluten, and coloring agents.

Goodest Meaty Mackerel meets the AAFCO nutritional requirements for all life stages.

As with the other Goodest recipes, this is a budget food. The protein in the food will likely appeal to cats. You will need to decide if the other ingredients are worth overlooking for the price.

Goodest doesn’t provide calorie information but we estimate it has about 46 kcal per 100 grams.
