Would your cat go swimming? Arno the cat does regularly!
Scientists aren’t entirely sure what causes the aversion to water that most cats have, though there are some theories–including leftover instincts from their wild ancestors.
Strangely, though, some cats love water! Whether or not a cat likes to swim can come down to their breed, socialization, and individual personality.
In the case of Arno the cat, it seems like a mix of the last two.
A fearless, bodyboarding cat

Arno’s mom describes him as “a very chill cat from the beginning.” Though he’s been well-socialized, he also came with a unique, fearless personality that has allowed for some pretty cool adventures!
He loves going to the beach and rolling around in the sand. When he’s done, he’ll cool off with a little swim!
Arno also likes to ride on a bodyboard. He stands there and looks around at the water and the people, happy as can be. Whether it’s in a pool or at the beach, this cat seems at home in the water!
Stroller? That’s Arno’s chariot!

When Arno isn’t swimming, his adventures often include being pushed around in a stroller by his mom. He sits there calmly, enjoying the ride.
Cats in public tend to garner attention, and Arno loves people walking up and petting him! His mom says that he loves everyone, and looks forward to these outings.
They’ve become routine, so he knows what it means when the harness and stroller come out. As soon as his harness is on, he climbs into the stroller all by himself, waiting for his mom to push him out the door.
From there, she can take him anyplace and he’s going to be excited about it! Arno’s adventures include plenty of new sights, smells, and people, which is great enrichment for him.
One of a kind

Arno’s mom says that she’s never had a cat who would go out with her. Especially not one as brave as Arno, who seems up for almost anything!
He was one of four siblings, three of which had already been adopted when his mom went to meet him. She knew immediately that he was hers–and Arno seemed to feel a connection, too.
While there are ways to socialize your cat and make them more accepting of adventures, every cat is a unique individual. Just like people, some prefer to stay close to home. But others, like Arno, are always up for an adventure.
