About Victor Cat Food
Founded in 2007, Victor pet food is a brand manufactured by Mid America Pet Food. The company is based in East Texas, where it was originally launched by Frank and Lavonne Glover. Victor is currently owned by private equity firm TA Associates.
In its early years, Victor was sold primarily to feed stores and other local distributors. When the brand partnered with Tractor Supply Co. in 2020, its national outreach expanded greatly. Though more widely available now, Victor is still largely a feed-store brand.
Victor was originally launched as a dog-focused pet food brand and didn’t start making cat food until after its 2020 expansion. The current Victor cat food lineup is fairly limited, split between a handful of kibble and canned food options.
Sourcing and Manufacturing
As a brand in the Mid America Pet Food family, Victor cat food is manufactured in the company’s East Texas facilities located outside of Dallas, TX. The brand’s FAQ section states that “the majority of ingredients are locally sourced in the state of Texas,” but things don’t get much more specific than that.
Victor products are manufactured in company-owned facilities and formulated by a combination of in-house and third-party nutritionists. Mid America Pet Foods also formulates and manufactures Eagle Mountain Pet Food, Nature’s Logic, and Wayne Feeds products.
Has Victor Cat Food Been Recalled?
In its near 20-year history, Victor has had a single recall. It was a voluntary recall issued by the company in November of 2023 due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall affected multiple Victor cat foods as well as other brands made by the same manufacturer.
Though Victor issued the recall voluntarily, they did so after the FDA initiated an investigation into reports of salmonella infections in seven people feeding their pets food manufactured by Mid America Pet Food.
What Kinds of Cat Food Does Victor Offer?
Victor offers four dry cat food recipes and two canned foods. All of Victor’s cat food products are built around a proprietary mix of supplements called VPROⓇ Blend. This blend features L-Carnitine, mineral complexes, prebiotics, and probiotics.
Here’s a list of Victor’s current cat food lineup:
- Mers Feline Multi-Cat Dry Cat Food
- Hi-Pro Plus Active Cat & Kitten Dry Cat Food
- Grain-Free Fit Feline Indoor Cat Dry Cat Food
- Grain-Free Healthy Skin & Coat Indoor Cat Dry Cat Food
- Turkey & Salmon Dinner Pâté Wet Cat Food
- Grain-Free Formula Shredded Chicken Dinner Cuts in Gravy Wet Cat Food
All four of Victor’s dry food recipes are formulated for both adult cats and kittens. These recipes feature high-quality sources of animal protein in both grain-free and grain-inclusive recipes. Victor’s two canned food recipes are made with animal-based protein as primary ingredients with the VPROⓇ Blend of supplements.
What Did Our Test Cats Think?
To test Victor cat food, I ordered two dry food formulas and both canned food recipes. The cans I received were pretty dented (something multiple customer reviews have mentioned), but it’s hard to tell whether that’s an issue with the manufacturer or the retailer.
As is typical for my cats (Biscuit and Munchkin), they were more interested in the wet foods than the kibble. In fact, the Mers Feline formula didn’t seem to interest either of them at all, though Biscuit really liked the Fit Feline formula. The pate-style wet food was a hit with both cats but Munchkin would only lick the gravy from the shredded formula.
Something worth noting about Victor dry food is that the kibbles are very small. It makes sense, since the formulas are designed for kittens as well as adult cats. This feature may make the food a good choice for cats who prefer dry food but have trouble chewing it (such as senior cats or cats who have had multiple extractions).

What Do Customers Think of Victor Cat Food?
Despite having been around for nearly two decades, Victor appears to have a relatively small following online. The product with the most engagement (Mers Feline Multi-Cat Dry Food) only has about 500 ratings on Amazon and 300 on Chewy. Most of the others range from 50 to 100 ratings on either platform.
As with many cat food brands in this price point, customer experience is highly varied. That being said, negative reviews seem to stem more from taste preferences (cats simply not liking the food) versus concerns about quality or ingredients.
Positive Reviews
Some cats really go nuts for Victor cat food and satisfied customers often say they approve of the ingredients. There’s numerous mentions of
“My cats love this food so much I have to hide the bag so they don’t tear it open! I love that Victor uses high quality ingredients to make a balanced, complete cat food to keep my fur balls tearing around the house for years and years to come. The kibbles are small and easy to eat.” – Andi reviewing Victor Fit Feline Indoor Cat Food on Chewy, April 14, 2025
“I put this food down and they didn’t hesitate to chow down on it. They eat just about anything though, so this was no surprise. Best of all is that the ingredients look good, so I know they’re getting quality food.” – Kaylany reviewing Victor Shredded Chicken Dinner Wet Cat Food on Chewy, May 12, 2025
Negative Reviews
Many negative reviews for Victor cat food stem from cats simply not liking the flavor, though some customers say their cats vomited or developed diarrhea after eating it. In the last year, numerous customers have also questioned whether the dry foods changed formula since their cats used to eat it but no longer will.
“We have used Victor dry cat food for many years and never had a problem. We noticed one of our cats started dropping weight, and upon further investigation, the cat food had a rancid smell. We figured it was a one-off, and Chewy replaced it, but when we received the second bag, the food smelled horrible, and our cats wouldn’t touch it. We’re having to change brands altogether.” – Maria reviewing Victor Mers Feline Dry Cat Food on Chewy, November 14, 2025
“It should have been a hit, it has gravy, and seems to have the right ingredients, yet none of my cats will eat it.” – Tinker reviewing Victor Shredded Chicken Dinner Wet Cat Food on Chewy, March 16, 2025
How Much Does Victor Cat Food Cost?
Victor cat foods are pretty budget-friendly, with canned foods averaging $0.32 per ounce and dry foods under $3.50 per pound (about $0.20 per ounce). The wet food is similarly priced to brands like Nulo and Dave’s Pet Food while the dry foods have a similar cost to many store brands like Target’s Kindfull and Petco’s WholeHearted.
To estimate daily feeding costs, we use the average daily calorie requirements for a healthy, 10-pound cat. Using these values, we estimate that it would cost about $2.15 per day to feed your cat Victor wet food. For dry food, daily feeding costs could be as low as $0.40.
Where is Victor Cat Food Sold?
In stores, Victor cat food is sold by local pet retailers and feed suppliers. You can use the brand’s Store Locator to find a local retailer near you. This tool even enables you to narrow your search by product type or to specific cat food formulas.
If you prefer to shop online, you can find Victor cat food products on Chewy and Amazon. You may also be able to purchase it from smaller online retailers like PetSupermarket and Petsense by Tractor Supply. Victor doesn’t sell its products directly through the brand’s website.
Overall, Is Victor Cat Food a Good Choice?
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly brand, Victor appears to be a decent option in this price range. While many wet foods under $0.35/ounce are loaded with carbohydrates and fillers, Victor’s canned foods are fairly low-carb (under 20% dry matter) and don’t contain artificial additives or animal by-products.
Victor’s dry cat foods are what you’d expect from a store brand-quality product. They’re high in carbs but some recipes feature whole grains rather than peas and other legumes. Across the board, Victor features animal-sourced proteins and fats in its formulas but the food seems to be really hit-or-miss with cats.
Though not one of our top-rated brands, you could do worse than to feed your cat Victor products if you’re on a budget.

you said, “Victor cat food is a smidge superior to most foods at the same price. It doesn’t contain the animal by-products, synthetic dyes, and artificial flavors you might find in similarly economical foods. That said, you could find other economy foods with lower carbohydrate content, more protein, and higher palatability ratings..”
What are those other economical foods that are better? I have been looking through this site and I havent found anything with a higher score that is the same price or lower than Victor? thanks
Hi Chris, good question! That comment referred to economical wet foods—there aren’t a lot of superior budget dry foods on the market. If you’re in the market for wet food, you might try some of the items on our list of the best cheap cat food. Otherwise, Victor dry cat food is one of the best economy dry foods, in the same league as Kirkland Signature and Health Extension. Hope this helps!
Did you do your research? It is easy to go to Victor’s Website and see they have 4 different dry cat foods n have for some time. I appears your research ability is 1 star out of 10.
