The exquisite Chartreux cat, a French breed, nearly went extinct during World War I and World War II – and to this day, the Chartreux remains a rare breed and not nearly as common as some other purebreds.
Yet still, many humans who share their lives with Chartreux cats – known for steely gray fur, a face that looks like it’s smiling, a muscular build, and eyes ranging from copper to orange in color – created Instagram accounts for their felines. Not many of us may have a Chartreux in our home, but we can enjoy the ones shared with the world through Instagram!
I had fun exploring the social media website and checking out these beautiful Chartreux cat pages. Here are seven favorites, though surely there are many more yet to be discovered.
1. Michetto

What a handsome Italian fellow! The cat identified on his page @michetto_chartreux lives in Rome with his human mom, and his photos are as much a pleasure to look at as images of the picturesque countryside in Italy. This cat, with steely gray fur and golden eyes, sunbathes on a tile roof, celebrates his 9th birthday in 2025, and adorably flashes his belly and rolls on his back. His playful personality is captured in reels like this one, where Michetto pounces on a ball in a tunnel. We see his gentle, sweet side here, where he licks his mom’s hands.

Here, at @chartreux_zoe, we have a German beauty who loves hanging out with her human in picturesque scenes in Germany. She loves the great outdoors! In a few photos, Zoe spends time on a boat, reminiscent of the Jonesy cat character in the show Wild Cards, and she explores a beach on a harness. Zoe lounges by a deflated basketball – perhaps deflated by her own mischief. And look at this funny reel of Zoe doing a tongue “blep” at a human work station!
If you scroll far down in the almost 400 posts on Zoe’s page, you will see several images of her from 2021 as a kitten and she is so cute! You will also see some images of Zoe’s companion, a tabby named Roxana who died in 2022.

This dashing Chartreux fellow lives in Paris, and what a fitting place France is for a cat breed that has a French name. Called a “curious Chartreux cat” on his page at @prince_riyet, “Prince Riyet” was born in June 2020 and the page has more than 90 posts of this cat’s life. You can see him celebrating his second birthday by eating his favorite cuisine – succulent shrimp – in this pinned post. The pudgy prince explores the outdoors in Burgundy, France on a foggy autumn day. Riyet messes with his human’s computer equipment here. And look how adorable this baby boy was as a kitten!
Reels show the playful cat pouncing on a toy in a tunnel, spying on a bird outside, and racing ahead of his people on a leash and harness.

The profile at @bleu_the_chartreux doesn’t say where in the world this cat lives, but we know he’s a happy, pampered, spirited cat.
He dresses up in a feline collared shirt and tie, makes biscuits on “Meowmy’s” face, and gives his mom a dirty look when she makes Bleu wear a seatbelt. Bleu shows funny cattitude when he makes this face with the caption: “… Oh, what I put up with. I believe this calls for extra treats.” The chubby Chartreux also cracks me up with his cattitude in this memeworthy image that has him saying: “REALLY?!?!?”
On Bleu’s page, which has about 1K followers, the 135-plus photos include two other household cats: Ollie, a Scottish Straight tabby; and Butters, a beautiful black American Shorthair that sadly passed away in 2023. The parent calls the three pets the BOB Cats (Bleu, Ollie, and Butters). In this adorable reel, Ollie the kitten meets his big brother Bleu, who is tolerant of the frisky little fellow! These popular Chartreux siblings, who have nearly 6K followers at @orphee.sacha, live in Japan, and the entire page is written in Japanese. Thankfully, with the “translate” function on Instagram, English speakers can click a button and read the captions. Orphee is a beautiful girl and Sacha is her handsome brother, and the big cats look like they’re having so much fun trying to catch a butterfly in a Japanese garden!

Question: Both my 2+. year old DSH cats are overweight. I didn’t realize, but now I must change feeing so they can lose. Both weigh about 15 lbs; vet says should be about 12. Any ideas? They sit in front of their feeding station looking at me longingly. They are on. Hills prescription c/d food because one had urine crystals over a year ago. Prior to that, they ate basic stuff. I want to do this feeding change without stressing them out. Thanks.
