When Maverick the cat’s parents decided to petsit a puppy for a week, they didn’t know how happy it would make him. As soon as the pup walked through the door, his mom said, Maverick was ready to play!
Luckily, the puppy was too. And so, the sweetest friendship formed between them.
Love at First Sight
Have you ever met somebody and known you were destined to be friends? That’s what seems to have happened between these two!
The puppy was only there for one week, but she and Maverick acted like they’d known each other their entire lives. Maverick went running up to her immediately, and they played together like it was the most natural thing in the world.
When she wanted to play, the puppy learned to nip at Maverick’s tail. Instead of scratching back, he let it happen and took her cue that it was playtime!
These two are so cute that they have people on TikTok insisting that Maverick needs a dog of his own.
Maverick’s Adventures

Maverick is a Siberian cat, and his parents adopted him because they were grieving their late rescue cat, who was part Siberian. They brought him home at around three months old.
He’s always been super playful and friendly, though he’s not the most affectionate cat. He wants to be around his people 24/7, but doesn’t need constant snuggles. It’s a different kind of love than you get from a dog, his mom explains, but every bit as valuable.
It’s important to learn what your individual cat likes and dislikes and to respect their boundaries. Maverick, for example, is super adventurous. He loves to walk outside in his harness, explore new places, and (of course!) meet new doggy friends.
His parents never realized how sweet and patient Maverick was until they saw him with other animals. They didn’t intentionally socialize him with different dogs or train him to be as friendly as he is. It’s simply his personality! From the start, he’s been fantastic with other pets.
Maverick is also a shining light in his mom’s life. She works as a doctor in psychiatry, so she sees a lot of sad cases and spends a lot of time taking care of others. She looks forward to coming home and spending time with Maverick each day.
He’s joyful and charismatic, and their nightly walks help her to clear her head. The companionship of a cat is unlike anything else in the world!
Do Your Dog and Cat Get Along?

Although getting along with dogs comes naturally to Maverick, this isn’t true for most cats. Cats and dogs have very different ways of communicating. The same cues that indicate a dog is feeling playful, such as a wagging tail and a raised butt, indicate that a cat is feeling fear or anger.
Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to set our pets up for success. These include being thoughtful about each animal’s personality prior to adoption, introducing the two by scent first, and keeping your dog leashed during their first interactions.
Learning both cat and dog body language yourself is also crucial and helps to ensure no one is hurt during the introduction process.
