The Furbulous True Odor-Free self-cleaning litter box is the first auto-packing litter box on the market. The machine automatically seals waste into trash bags with the press of a button, reducing odors and keeping things clean with as little effort as possible.

But, does this feature work? And is this litter box worth its hefty price tag of $449.99? In this review, I’ll share my experience as well as thoughts from other customers to help you decide if this is the right automatic litter box for you.

I tested the Furbulous True Odor-Free self-cleaning litter box for a couple of months in my multi-cat household. In this time, I was able to get a good feel for how it ran, its cleaning process, and how the cats responded to it.

I also read through the reviews on Amazon to see what other customers thought and to determine what kinds of people and cats the litter box is best suited to.

As a brand, Furbulous aims to make pet parents’ lives easier with smart pet technology including grooming supplies, water fountains, and more. Of course, they also sell the Furbulous True Odor-Free self-cleaning litter box.

Upon its release in 2023, it became the first self-packing litter box. Its primary feature is its self-sealing waste bags made to reduce odors, so that cat poop isn’t sitting openly in the waste disposal until the bag is emptied. The machine also has multiple safety features, weighs and monitors each cat’s litter usage, and more.

As we touched on above, the stand-out feature of this box is its ability to seal its waste bags, keeping odors enclosed until the waste disposal drawer is emptied. It works well and does a great job of notifying you when the bag is full. You can then press the “auto pack” button on the app to seal the old bag and have a new one released from the roll.

Furbulous states that it works for cats up to 22 pounds but, like most automatic litter boxes I’ve seen, it’s too small for large cats to use comfortably. A lot of space on the Furbulous box is taken up by its waste disposal shoot and other mechanics, leaving comparatively little space for the litter tray itself, which measures around 16×16”.

Its safety features include weight, proximity, and IR sensors. While it does have a door, which can be dangerous in automatic litter boxes, it doesn’t close on its own. However, due to the way it scoops, cats could still potentially become trapped inside if the sensors were to fail. One reviewer said that this happened to them, so it’s something to consider before purchasing.

Lastly is the app, in which you can set the machine to clean, empty, or auto-pack the trash bags. You can also adjust the wait time before cleaning, turn off automatic cleaning if you’d prefer, or set a specific time for the box to scoop itself. There’s a child lock, night mode, and energy-saving mode. The app can also track your cats’ weights and how long they spend in the litter box.

What Did Our Test Cats Think?

My first impressions of the Furbulous True Odor-Free self-cleaning litter box were good. I like the way it looks and there’s very little set-up needed to get the machine up and running. I immediately noticed that the litter tray was on the small side, and expected my larger cats to avoid using it. Pouring in the litter was also a bit difficult since the front entrance is too small for the litter tub to fit inside.

Our first major problem with the box started when I turned it on and it made a very loud noise whenever it ran. It scared the cats and was unpleasant for the humans in the home, too. Later, it wouldn’t scoop due to thinking a cat was nearby, despite there being no cats in the room. Resetting it took away this issue–and also the terrible noise, for the most part.

When the litter box is running properly, it’s very quiet. The cats like to approach it and watch it clean, and when they do, it stops running mid-cleaning cycle. It’s been good to see that the sensors work as they should.

The auto-packing feature also works well and keeps odors contained. The machine disassembles easily for deep cleaning.

That said, my cats didn’t use this box much. I think the loud sounds at the beginning scared several of them away, and its small size didn’t help either. Especially for the $449.99 price, I would recommend purchasing another brand that has fewer technical issues.

“We have now gotten to the point where I am fixing these problems almost daily. It’s only been a few months. Many customers have problems connecting the box to their WiFi alongside other technical malfunctions. The litter box seems to have a short lifespan, with many reviewers stating that theirs broke just weeks or months after purchase.

Warning: Potentially Unsafe Product

This litter box shouldn’t be set to scoop automatically, as it has an unsafe design. Automatic litter boxes that scoop back-to-front like this can trap cats inside if the sensors fail, and similar products have killed cats.

Therefore, we recommend either buying another litter box or setting this product to manual scoop only. Ensure that your cat isn’t inside before running a cycle, and monitor the machine as it runs.
