Chester the rabbit didn’t really get along with other pets until he met Bobby the cat. Now, they’re best friends who do everything together, from grooming to munching on hay!
Scared of a Three-Pound Bunny Rabbit?
When Briana decided she wanted a rabbit, she was still living with her parents. Her dad said no right away, but they eventually ended up adopting one from the SPCA.
Neither of them had been around rabbits before, so she had no way of knowing that he’d be scared of a three-pound bunny!
From the day they brought Chester home, it was like he knew the man was afraid of him. He started teasing him right away, chasing him around the house and popping out to startle him. Briana said it was like Chester was laughing at her dad’s fear!
Her dad persevered through that fear, though, always trying his best to interact and bond with Chester. Over the years, they grew much closer to one another. Briana had no idea how affectionate rabbits could be until she brought him home!
Meeting Chester’s New Best Friend

While living with her parents, Briana says that Chester was very territorial, and would sometimes launch at the other pets. When she decided to adopt Bobby the cat, she wasn’t only afraid of him attacking Chester, but of Chester attacking him!
But after reading what the shelter had written about Bobby on Facebook, she knew she had to bring him home. She introduced the two with a playpen between them so that they could see and smell each other, but couldn’t touch.
Luckily, they got along right away. The two groom one another, Bobby snacks on Chester’s hay, and they’re the best of friends.
Briana describes Bobby as the most well behaved cat ever. He’s a complete sweetheart, loving on everyone he meets. Despite never being around rabbits before, he took to Chester very quickly.
Chester, on the other hand, is a bit of a mischief-maker! He’s affectionate, too, and loves his mom and Bobby.
While Chester has always lived with other cats, he never formed relationships with them like he has with Bobby. They hang out together while Briana works from home, and when she’s finished they’ll all hang out on the couch, the two animals snuggled on either side of her like bookends.
Should Rabbits and Cats Live Together?

There’s no doubt that Chester and Bobby are cute, but should cats and rabbits live together? Sadly, we don’t recommend trying this at home.
Some cats get along well with rabbits–and some get along until they don’t. Cats are predators who often see rabbits as prey, and they’re also very fast! Even if you do allow your rabbit and cat to interact, they should never be left unattended.
Cats can also hurt rabbits accidentally during play, and even a small scratch can cause a deadly infection.
With all of that said, cats and rabbits can live in the same home safely, so long as they’re kept separate. We recommend keeping at least two barriers between them at all times, so that you have a backup plan in case one fails.
It’s also vital to remember that rabbits aren’t cage animals. Proper care means allowing them to free-roam in a large space, such as a bedroom. If you don’t have the space for your rabbit and your cat to free-roam at the same time, it’s best to stick to one species.
