Lanai Cat Sanctuary

An outdoor animal sanctuary in Hawaii has created what “purradise” looks like for felines and cat-loving humans alike. And if you’ve ever wondered yourself, look no further than the Lanai Cat Sanctuary.

The purrfect wedding

Dream weddings look different for everyone. Some brides obsess over the menu, and some grooms need the music to be just right. R.J. and Sarah, however, knew that the key to their wedding bliss would be cats.

Lots and lots of cats.

R.J. and Sarah were just one of the many couples who’ve tied the knot at the Lanai Cat Sanctuary, where over 600 felines reside. Since 2014, over 1,800 rescued cats have lived there!

The sanctuary’s beautiful green outdoor space is about half the size of a football field. There, the cats are treated like the MVPs they are. Each feline gets routine check-ins with veterinarians, lots of affection from volunteers who stop in to cuddle and play, and even have the chance to be adopted into a forever home by visitors.

The sanctuary played a critical role in housing many of the cats who were rescued from the wildfires that devastated Maui in August 2023. Two hundred cats, many of whom were saved from the fire’s toxic burn zone, benefited from the sanctuary’s open arms.

But for what it’s worth, human visitors don’t have to get married in order to have fun at the Lanai Cat Sanctuary.

At the sanctuary, visitors can also attend yoga classes and, after sunset, use telescopes to stargaze as well!

While the Lanai Cat Sanctuary is a pretty spectacular place for humans, it’s never lost sight of its number one priority: helping cats in need.

“Above all,” the organization states, “Lanai Cat Sanctuary believes that cats deserve to live their best life possible.”
