The Cat & Kitten Recipe was the top pick. As soon as I opened the bag, both cats rushed over and dove right into the bowl. They ate enthusiastically and didn’t hesitate with the texture or aroma, making this the most universally enjoyed option.
The Grain‑Free Salmon Recipe also went over well, especially for the cat who prefers fish flavors. The kibble has a slightly stronger smell, but neither cat seemed bothered by it. They gladly ate it, though not with quite the same excitement as the chicken recipe.

Overall, my cats showed a strong preference for the Cat & Kitten Recipe, but both Nutrena formulas were eaten without hesitation. Their reactions show Nutrena offers solid palatability, especially for cats who enjoy chicken‑forward diets.

Positive Reviews
My cats like this food and they are picky about dry food. I am happy with the ingredients, the smell, and the nutrition content. Nice product. I will buy again – By GoldenMama on Jun 28, 2026
When I set their dishes in front of them, they started gobbling it down like they hadn’t eaten in a year, quickly finishing cleaning their bowls and looking for more. I got the same results when I gave it to my outside friends the next morning. Nobody turned it down or even hesitated and every piece quickly disappeared. I was very impressed at the small, rounded pieces. It’s not often that cat food is shaped with the design of a the design of a cats’ mouth in mind, but this product definitely is. It smells and looks fresh. I would love to see this available in a resealable bag, but for now, I used my own Ziploc bags to keep the rest fresh until it’s used up. Carb content is very important to me, as I have a diabetic cat, so I’ve added a screenshot of the carb. content results as calculated by the formula for those who have cats their veterinarians say should monitor their carbs. If your cat likes fish/seafood foods, definitely give this one a try. – By motheroffuzzies on Jun 29, 2026
Negative Reviews
This cat food has a stronger odor to it which really attracted my cat at first. After a few days though he was asking for his old food back. I did a side by side test to see which food he preferred. (See the photos below). The new food was left uneaten while both my cats chose their old food instead. – By Mandy on Jul 5, 2026
My cat was not a super big fan of this product. It looks and smells like any other typical cat food. She just was not interested in eating any of it, though she did try. – By French Bulldog on Jun 27, 2026
How Much Does Nutrena Cost?
Nutrena’s Loyall Life cat foods are priced as mid‑range, super‑premium dry kibble. Because the brand offers only two formulas, pricing is fairly consistent across retailers. Most bags fall in the range of $2.00 to $3.00 per pound, depending on bag size and retailer. The salmon‑based recipe tends to be slightly more expensive due to its fish‑first formulation.
Since Nutrena offers only complete dry meals (no treats or toppers), the daily cost is straightforward. For most cats, Nutrena typically runs:
- $0.40 to $0.80 per day for average adult cats
- More than $0.90 per day for larger or more active cats
Nutrena’s lack of corn, wheat, soy, and artificial additives places it above basic grocery‑store kibble in price, but still below boutique or raw‑based brands.
Overall, Is Nutrena a Good Choice?
Yes! Nutrena’s Loyall Life cat foods offer straightforward, digestible, all‑life‑stage nutrition made with chicken or salmon as the first ingredient. Both formulas avoid corn, wheat, soy, by‑products, and artificial colors or preservatives, making them a solid mid‑premium option for pet parents who prefer cleaner ingredient lists without moving into boutique or raw‑based diets. The added DHA, taurine, probiotics, and omega fatty acids support brain development, heart health, digestion, and skin and coat wellness.
If you have cats who enjoy traditional kibble, Nutrena is a sound choice. Just keep in mind that both formulas offer moderate fat and are higher in carbohydrates, which may require portion control for indoor cats or those prone to weight gain.
