The VOLUAS Cat Feeder is a timed feeder for dry food only. The 4L food tank holds up to 16.9 cups of dry food, and the sealed food storage area helps keep kibble fresh between meals.
Programming the feeder is easy. The intuitive LCD screen guides you through the process and lets you customize meal times (up to four per day) as well as portion control (which ranges from 0 to 40).
The feeder is powered by a USB plug-in and is also equipped with a backup battery compartment (which holds three D-cell batteries) to maintain your cat’s feeding schedule in case of a power outage.
A nice touch to the feeder is a 10-second voice recorder, so you can record a personal mealtime call for your pet.
The feeder is lightweight but sturdy. One customer, who kept the feeder on the porch for a stray cat, said that it survived being dragged, jumped on, and clawed at by a pair of raccoons–who were not successful in opening it!
The feeder currently costs . There’s nothing overly complicated or fancy about the feeder, which makes it very convenient to use. Overall, it seems to be a practical automatic feeder at a reasonable price.
What We Like:
- Easy to use
- Has both wired and battery-powered options
- Large capacity
- Easy to clean
What We Didn’t Like:
- Lid fit could be more secure – sometimes feels a bit loose
- While the voice recorder is a nice touch, it would be nice to have more than 10 seconds to record
- Only the bowl is stainless steel
- You’ll need to play around with the portion settings
What Did Our Test Cats Think?

Annie Butler / Cats.com
Setup was simple. The LCD screen guides you through the process—although it would have been helpful to know ahead of time that the feeder works on 24-hour time.
The recording was easy to set up. We had to record our greeting a couple of times until we were happy with it and sure that it wouldn’t startle the cats. It was a little quiet, so I’m not sure if they could hear it, but the tinkling of the kibble in the bowl just after the recording was enticing. Once our cats figured out how it worked, they would come running when they heard the kibble come out.
The 4L feeder holds up to 16.9 cups of dry food. A single portion is about 1 tablespoon. We started with the lowest portion, so it was a comically small amount in the big bowl the first time around. After experimenting with the portions a bit, we found the one that worked best for our cats.
The food storage tank is easy to clean—you just hand wash the food tank, food tray, and the lid (without the desiccant bag). These parts can be submerged in water but are not dishwasher-safe.
We tested the feeder for about two weeks, and it worked well and reliably. There were no jams, and the food was dispensed every time.

Positive Reviews
Many cat parents were happy with the convenience of the feeder as well as its all-around functionality.
I’m very happy with this feeder! It’s easy to set up and makes feeding my cat so much more convenient, especially when I’m busy or away from home. The portion control is very helpful for keeping a consistent feeding schedule, and the feeder dispenses the food reliably at the programmed times. —Betty on Amazon
Exactly as it appears and good quality. Easy to put together. It took about an hour to figure out the portion size and then programming it for my cat, which wasn’t too bad. My cat is still figuring out this thing that auto-feeds him, which is a little entertaining, but I think is a good thing for him and for me. —Jessica on Amazon
Negative Reviews
Customers are mostly happy with the feeder. All of the negative comments had to do with minor issues.
My cat managed to figure out how to open the top lid. I wish it were a bit more cat-proof. Other than that, it works well and I will figure out a solution for the lid. —Collin on Amazon
We really love this feeder. The only issue is that the feeder clock loses 4 minutes per day, so we have to keep resetting the time on the digital clock every week. —Bonnie on Facebook
Frequently Asked Questions
Can it be used for wet food or semi-moist food?
No. VOLUAS automatic feeders are designed for dry pet food only. Do not use wet, semi-moist, sticky, or oily food, as it may clog the dispenser.
What size kibble works best?
Use dry kibble that flows smoothly through the dispenser (about .07 to .04 in diameter). Very large, irregular, soft, sticky, or oily kibble may not dispense consistently.
Should I use the power cable or batteries?
For daily use, we recommend using the power cable. Batteries are best used as backup power during outages or when an outlet is not available.
Can the feeder be used for multiple pets?
Yes, but a standard single-bowl feeder does not recognize individual pets. If your cats need separate bowls or more balanced shared feeding, choose a VOLUAS dual-bowl feeder designed for two pets.
