One Eyed Cat Wins Womans Heart

Linus’ mom had grown up with dogs and wasn’t even thinking about cat adoption when he came into her life. But cats have a way of sneaking up on you when you least expect them.

It turns out, she was simply a cat person in waiting–and now she’s completely obsessed!

Trap, Neuter… Adopt?

Linus was brought into the vet clinic where his mom worked as a veterinary assistant, through a TNR (trap, neuter, return) program to help local cat colonies. Kittens born outdoors often don’t fare well, and Linus was no exception.

He had an upper respiratory infection so bad that, while he was under anesthesia for his neuter, the vet also had to remove one of his eyes.

When his mom saw him playing in his kennel, a little voice in her head told her that he belonged with her. So, when she was told that he couldn’t be returned to the colony, she jumped on the chance to adopt him!

She brought him home a week later, after he’d had a chance to receive veterinary care and recover from his surgery.

The first night, she says, they sat and watched The Bachelor together. The bond she felt with him was immediate, and now she’s a cat person through and through. She even has portraits of Linus all over the house!

A Quick Recovery–and Helping More Cats Like Linus!

Although Linus was very sick, he was lucky to receive the veterinary care he needed. He quickly started to act like a normal eight-week-old kitten, playing with everything he could get ahold of and exploring his new home from top to bottom.

Once he was healthy and adjusted to his new environment, his mom learned what a big, goofy personality he has. She would wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of him pawing at the doorstop, or walk in on him trying to fit himself onto the bookcase.

He loves climbing into paper bags, sitting on piles of laundry, and watching cat TV. He’s a lot to handle, his mom says, but he’s perfect.

She hopes that people will see Linus on social media and learn that just because a cat looks a little different, doesn’t mean that they can’t live full, joyful lives. One-eyed cats like Linus are often overlooked in shelters, but they’re every bit as amazing as any other cat. They might even change your life!

Linus has done his part in fostering such a huge love of cats in his mom that she’s considering becoming a feline-only veterinarian and spending the rest of her life helping cats in need.
