Why Trust Cats.com

To write this review, I performed thorough brand research on Furry Wonder and tested three of their products with my own cats. My research spanned the brand’s website and social media accounts as well as unaffiliated review sites and customer critiques.

I personally purchased three Furry Wonder recipes at full retail price and tested them with my three cats: Bagel, Biscuit, and Munchkin. During testing, I evaluated each product for its appearance, palatability, texture, and general appeal. I also analyzed the information on the product labels, including the list of ingredients and guaranteed analysis.

After in-depth research and testing, I rated Furry Wonder in six key categories according to the Cats.com Standard.

About Furry Wonder

Furry Wonder is a freeze-dried raw pet food company that offers a limited selection of products for both dogs and cats. I wasn’t able to find a lot of specific information about the brand, but it seems they’re a new entrant to the pet food industry. In 2023, Furry Wonder was a Silver Winner in the MUSE Design Awards in the Packaging Design category for animal and pet products.

This pet food brand is focused on whole-food nutrition for pets. Their marketing materials mention ethical sourcing and meat-first formulations. Furry Wonder claims to follow nutrition requirements established by numerous international regulators including the FDA, the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), the Pet Food Manufacturer’s Association (PFMA), and the European Pet Food Industry Federation (FEDIAF).

It appears that Furry Wonder is still ramping up production because, at the time of my review, only three of the four advertised recipes were available. Three package sizes are listed on the website for each formula, but only the 16-ounce bags were being sold.

Sourcing And Manufacturing

Based in Seattle, Furry Wonder pet food products are manufactured in the United States for Pet Wonder US Limited. The food is made with human-grade ingredients sourced in the USA.

Furry Wonder pet foods are freeze-dried at temperatures between -35°C and -40°C. This process enables the raw ingredients to retain their original appearance and nutritional properties while increasing shelf life. The result is a lightweight, low-moisture product that is designed to be rehydrated before feeding.

Though Furry Wonder doesn’t provide specific information about the sourcing of ingredients, they state in their FAQ section that the meat and fish in their recipes is “carefully and responsibly sourced” from trusted suppliers. The products are subjected to three-party inspections — pre-production, finished goods, and reserve sample – to ensure quality and safety.

Recall History

Because Furry Wonder appears to be very new to the market, there is limited information available about the brand’s history. I didn’t find any evidence of product recalls. Lack of recalls is always a good thing, but brands without an established history in the industry generally don’t receive a perfect score in this area.

What Kinds Of Cat Food Does Furry Wonder Offer?

Furry Wonder currently only offers freeze-dried raw cat food formulas. Each recipe is formulated to support key aspects of feline health and wellness such as digestion, immunity, growth, or skin health. The food is available in patty-like “Mighty Nuggets” or smaller “Mighty Bites.”

The four formulas available include:

  • Grow & Thrive
  • Sensitive Digestion
  • Skin & Coat Vitalize
  • Immune Boost

All of Furry Wonder’s cat food recipes are formulated with the carnivorous needs of cats in mind. They’re meat-based and grain-free, made with 96% raw meat, offal, and bones. Furry Wonder cat foods offer a 3:1 protein-to-fat ratio and include a blend of common proteins like chicken and salmon with novel additions like rabbit and pigeon.

Each of Furry Wonder’s recipes is formulated for cats of all breeds and life stages. The foods are nutritionally balanced, so they can be fed as a complete meal, but they also work well as food toppers. Furry Wonder recommends soaking the food in warm water or broth before feeding.

For feeding guidelines, refer to the Furry Wonder website or your individual package.

#1 Furry Wonder Grow & Thrive Freeze-Dried Raw Tenderly Shredded Chicken Recipe with Extra Duck for Cats

FURRY WONDER Freeze Dried Raw Cat Food

Featuring muscle meat from chicken breast and duck breast as the top two ingredients, this is a meat-centric freeze-dried raw formula. Chicken with ground bone provides animal-sourced minerals like calcium and phosphorus, both of which are essential for bone health. An assortment of chicken organ meats delivers essential vitamins while chicken cartilage delivers a source of joint-supporting sodium hyaluronate.

This formula is made with 96% raw meat, offal, and bones. Measured as dry matter, it contains nearly 63% protein and about 20% fat. Aside from algae powder and a few extracts, there are no added plant ingredients, so the carbohydrate content of the food is very low.

Furry Wonder’s Mighty Bites are small and kibble-like in shape, making them a great option as treats or food toppers.

Grow & Thrive is shaped in oblong pieces that are very lightweight and easy to crush by hand. I found that the food rehydrated very quickly, and my cats seemed to enjoy the flavor and texture. They also enjoyed the dry pieces as treats.

#2 Furry Wonder Sensitive Digestion Freeze-Dried Raw Silky-Textured Rabbit Recipe for Cats

Though marketed as a rabbit recipe, this Furry Wonder formula is largely chicken-based (as is true for most of their formulas). Most of the protein appears to come from chicken breast and chicken with ground bone, though all the organs included are sourced from rabbits.

I feed all of my cats a rabbit-based staple diet, so this was their favorite of the three we tested. This recipe comes in round, flat nuggets that measure about 2 inches wide. With their low moisture content, the nuggets are very easy to crush and rehydrate with warm water or broth.

This formula is similar in nutritional composition to the previous formula, with about 62% protein and 20% fat measured as dry matter. Salmon oil is the only added fat and provides animal-sourced omega-3 fatty acids which have an anti-inflammatory effect in the body and support skin and coat health.

Furry Wonder’s Mighty Nuggets measure about 2 inches wide.

With its limited list of animal-sourced ingredients, this Sensitive Digestion recipe appears to be highly digestible. The only trouble I can foresee is the inclusion of chicken ingredients which might be an issue for cats with chicken allergies.

#3 Furry Wonder Freeze-Dried Raw Delicately-Flavored Fish Recipe for Cats

FURRY WONDER Freeze Dried Raw Cat Food

Like the previous recipe, chicken appears to make up the majority of this formula despite it being marketed as a fish flavor. Again, the food is made with 96% muscle meat, organs, and bone in a species-appropriate freeze-dried raw formula.

This recipe is designed to support skin and coat vitality, a benefit which likely comes from the fish ingredients. Mackerel, salmon, and cod offer whole animal sources of omega-3 fatty acids, supplemented by the addition of salmon oil. Green mussel contains omega-3s as well but is also a significant source of joint-supporting glucosamine and chondroitin.

Shaped in round nuggets, this Furry Wonder cat food is just as easy to rehydrate and feed as the other formulas. My cats don’t eat a lot of fish, so they found the food interesting and seemed to enjoy it.

Ingredients

Chicken Breast, Chicken with Ground Bone, Mackerel with Ground Bone, Salmon with Ground Bone, Cod Fish with Ground Bone, Chicken Heart, Chicken Liver, Chicken Gizzard, Chicken Cartilage, Dried Egg Yolk Powder, Salmon Oil, Green Mussel, Algae Powder, Yeast Hydrolyzate, Fructooligosaccharides, Galactooligosaccharides, Sodium Hyaluronate, Chondroitin Sulfate, Taurine, Choline Chloride, Vitamin B3, Zinc Proteinate, Vitamin E, Bovine Colostrum, Iron Proteinate, Vitamin B5, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin A, Vitamin B7, Vitamin B9, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3, Yucca Extract, Rosemary Extract, Tea Polyphenols, Citric Acid.

What Do Customers Think of Furry Wonder Cat Food?

Given that Furry Wonder is such a new brand, customer reviews are very limited. Furry Wonder does post customer testimonials are their website but, because the brand chooses them, it’s hard to say whether they provide a complete picture of the customer experience. Based on around 100 reviews on Amazon, however, customers seem generally satisfied with the Furry Wonder brand.

Positive Reviews

“My cat loves this and the ingredients are great. I rehydrate it with some watered down bone broth. It’s less expensive than other similar brands so I really appreciate being able to feed quality food to my cat for a little bit more affordable price.” – by Sydney, reviewing Furry Wonder Sensitive Digestion, on April 26th, 2023

“My kitties love these. The recipe is balanced, so I feed it to them as one of their 2 daily meals. It has ensured they have a beautiful coat, keeps their weight in a nice healthy range. Plus, the size of the bites is easy and convenient to feed.”-by Wang Xiao Liang, reviewing Furry Wonder Sensitive Digestion, on January 10th, 2023

Over 60% of Amazon customers who rated Furry Wonder gave it a 5-star review. Customers seem pleased with the quality of the ingredients and cats generally seem to like the food. Several customers comment that Furry Wonder is less expensive than many brands, making it a cost-effective option for introducing your cat to freeze-dried food.

Negative Reviews

It’s Fine

“It’s ok, it definitely did not get my cats as hyped up as other brands did. It’s super powdery and breaks down really easy.” – by Sierra, Furry Wonder Sensitive Digestion, on May 22nd, 2023

Great Concept But Unappealing To My Three Cats

“Two of the cats turned their nose up to it on smell alone, the third cat which is something of a trash panda ate a bit but did not finish and never went back for the leftovers, even picking through them when traditional kibble was sprinkled among them.”-by Rodney, Furry Wonder Sensitive Digestion, on April 15th, 2023

Negative comments about Furry Wonder pet food largely center around cat refusal and issues with the smell or texture. Some products simply won’t be a hit with every cat. A few customers whose cats refused the food noted that their cats accepted it as a treat or when rehydrated with broth rather than water. Several customers who complained about the product’s powdery texture appear to have fed it to their cats dry.

How Much Does Furry Wonder Cat Food Cost?

The cost of Furry Wonder cat food varies depending on where you buy it – it appears to be significantly cheaper on Amazon.com. All Furry Wonder recipes are priced the same. Amazon.com sells the food for about $37 per 16-ounce bag (about $2.31/ounce) while the food costs about $46 (about $2.87/ounce) on Furry Wonder’s website.

If you buy on Amazon, Furry Wonder is notably less expensive than other freeze-dried brands like Stella & Chewy’s and Primal. Averaging around 120 calories per ounce, Furry Wonder cat food is fairly calorie-dense. To feed a 10-pound cat Furry Wonder freeze-dried raw food, it would cost between $3.85 and $4.80 per day.

Where Is Furry Wonder Cat Food Sold?

Furry Wonder appears to be sold only online. You can purchase Furry Wonder on the brand’s website and receive free shipping throughout the United States except to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Furry Wonder aims to ship orders quickly, stating that most customers receive their orders within 3-5 business days.

You can also purchase some Furry Wonder cat food recipes on Amazon.com. At the time of review, Furry Wonder was priced nearly $0.50 per ounce lower on Amazon than on the brand’s website. Neither Furry Wonder nor Amazon accepts returns on the food, and they appear to only sell 16-ounce bags.

Is the food really manufactured in the USA? That information is not available on the Furry Wonder website so I’m curious as to where it was obtained from. Also are the meat and fish ingredients really sourced in the USA or elsewhere?
“The food is made with human-grade ingredients sourced in the USA.” “made with” could be a selection of the ingredients being sourced in the USA, not all of them. It’s a bit of a puzzle and I’m not sure how ethical this food really is. I’m a UK cat parent and I try to avoid products where there isn’t a very transparent supply chain or company information available. This product seems to be a bit too good to be true if the constituent analysis is to be believed. Thanks

Appreciated this article. HOWEVER, when you look up their “supposed” address in Seattle it is a large office building of mostly attorneys and consultants. Their name doesn’t come up in the directory. It would be great to know exactly where this is manufactured and if they are really based in the U.S. Thank you.

Hi Carlene, thank you for the comment. From Furry Wonder: “Our business was founded in the US with the mission of offering the finest freeze-dried products to furry babies around the globe. We have learned how important it is to provide customers with as much information as possible as we grow in the industry. As a result, when we recently updated the recipes, we also upgraded the packaging. We added a window to highlight the products within and added the manufacturing information, “sourced and crafted in USA.” Our manufacturing located in Wisconsin, is a USDA audited and third-party audited to cGMP 21 CFR 111.” This is the best I can offer at this point—will keep seeking more information!
