HomerunPET Self-Cleaning Litter Box and Brand Overview

HomerunPET was founded in 2015 by Frank Liu, an R&D engineer with over 10 years of experience in the medical device field. With help from a group of tech enthusiasts who shared his passion for pets, Liu started a company with a mission to provide smart solutions to common pet care challenges.

The company launched its first creation, a wireless pet fountain, in 2020 but didn’t truly gain international recognition until the following year with the release of the Drybo smart pet dryer. Today, HomerunPET offers an assortment of smart pet supplies including bowls, feeders, fountains, and grooming essentials.

The most recent addition to the HomerunPET lineup is the CS106 self-cleaning litter box. HomerunPet began developing the CS106 in November of 2023 and spent the next year fine-tuning the design. Trial production began in October 2024 and the product launched with an Indiegogo campaign in April 2025.

The HomerunPET CS106 litter box is proudly described by the manufacturer as the world’s largest self-cleaning litter box. It’s designed specifically to address a key concern pet parents often cite with some of the most popular automatic litter boxes on the market—an interior that’s too cramped for comfort.

With a 106-liter dome volume and an 18-inch litter bed, the interior of the CS106 is spacious in comparison to options like the Petkit Pura Max and both Litter-Robot automatic litter boxes. The unit’s footprint is more significant as a result, so it’s important to measure your space before committing to this model. The good news is that it arrives fully assembled, so there’s minimal setup required.

To prep the CS106 for use, you’ll need to line the waste bin and sand drawer with the bags that come with the unit. You’ll also need to fill the litter bed to the line indicated inside the globe and plug the unit into a power source. If you decide you want to move the litter box, it has handles underneath and sits on four sturdy feet to keep it slightly elevated off the ground.

Like other popular automatic litter boxes, the CS106 operates on a rotating sifting system. After your cat uses the litter box, the dome tilts upward, pouring the litter through an integrated filter in the back of the dome. Clean litter is collected and returned to the litter bed at the end of the cycle while clumps tumble down a chute into the waste bin.

A standout feature of the CS106 is the Auto-Refill function. At the end of each cleaning cycle, the unit automatically dispenses clean cat litter from a 4.5L reservoir to help maintain the ideal level in the litter bed.

Also noteworthy is the fact that this automatic litter box is compatible with multiple litter types. It comes with a large-pore filter installed and an extra small-pore replacement filter to use with finer litters, like crystal cat litter. A drawer under the dome enables you to empty the litter bed without making a mess any time you want to switch litters or clean the dome.

The HomerunPET CS106 is designed to pair with a smartphone app that enables you to monitor litter bed and waste bin levels, toggle night mode on and off, trigger a manual cleaning cycle, and monitor usage metrics. You can also use the app to customize various functions like the timer that determines how long the unit waits to cycle after your cat exits the litter box.

The HomerunPET CS106 also comes equipped with multiple safety sensors and an anti-pinch bumper to ensure that the dome never fully closes, so it’s impossible for your cat to get stuck inside.

What Did Our Test Cats Think?

Homerunpet litter box testing by cat

Kate Barrington / Cats.com

Having read horror stories about cats being injured by poorly designed automatic litter boxes, I’m always a little nervous to test new models. It was immediately clear to me, however, that HomerunPET’s CS106 was engineered with safety in mind.

The radar and weight sensors appeared to work reliably and I especially appreciated the anti-pinch bumper that eliminates the risk of a cat accidentally getting stuck inside. I much prefer the always-open dome style used here and in Litter-Robot models versus units with doors or enclosed sifting mechanisms like PetSnow’s SNOW+. The radar sensors seemed overly sensitive at times, but I’d rather that than risk an accident.

It’s worth noting that there’s an additional safety feature for very small or young cats who might not be big enough to trigger the weight sensors. In the HomerunPET app, you can toggle on Kitten Protection Mode which disables the auto clean and scheduled clean functions. To further avoid issues with the weight sensors, you can press a button on the LED screen to reset the weight sensor each time you refill the litter bed.

Outside of safety features, I was also pleased with the CS106’s performance. The LED screen takes a little while to figure out, but the unit comes with a quick-start guide for assistance. You’ll also receive setup instructions when you log into the HomerunPET app to pair your unit. The app itself is easy to navigate, just know that you’ll need to have a 2.4 GHz connection to use it (it won’t work with 5 GHz WiFi).

The main downside I noticed with this automatic litter box is that there’s no built-in protection against litter tracking or scatter. My longhaired cat, Munchkin, gets lots of litter stuck in her toes. She’s also very small and getting up in years, so we both would have appreciated some kind of built-in step that doubled as a litter collection mat.

While the CS106 doesn’t have integrated accommodation for filters like some automatic litter boxes, I didn’t find odor to be a problem. The waste bin trapped odors pretty well and the Auto-Refill feature kept the litter bed fresh.

The CS106 is similarly priced to other automatic litter boxes at $499 but there’s an additional shipping fee which varies, depending on where you live. HomerunPET typically offers a 1-year warranty on all products, so you’ll have access to online support, replacement parts, and (for serious issues) a replacement unit for up to 12 months.

What Do Customers Think of the HomerunPET CS106 Self-Cleaning Litter Box?

Because the CS106 was only recently released, reviews are somewhat limited. Most of the reviews available as of April 2025 were from pet influencers who were given access to the litter box prior to its official launch. Here are a few snippets from YouTubers who tested the litter box:

“The spacious design, the self-cleaning and self-refilling features, and the modular parts that you can easily take apart to deep-clean all come together to create a litter box that makes life easier for both you and your feline friend.” -Reviewed by Raymond Strazdas, on YouTube on Apr 9, 2025

“I’ve been using the litter box for about 3 more weeks, and it’s still going strong. The litter level stays full, the box stays clean, and it hasn’t given me any issues.” – Reviewed by Off The Fence, on YouTube on Apr 9, 2025

“For first impressions, I am really impressed with this litter box. I wish they had added an odor-control block somewhere in this, but that is something I do think you can add yourself.” – Reviewed by AlderandJade, on YouTube on Apr 9, 2025

“While no product is perfect, my biggest cat still pushed the limits of its size… If you’re looking to upgrade your litter box setup, especially in a multi-cat household, this is definitely worth considering.” – Reviewed by Robert Sijka, on YouTube on Apr 9, 2025
