“It was just kind of like a crazy idea in the beginning,” said Waffle’s mom. What if they themed their wedding around their cat?
Before they knew it, they were spending $40,000 on the cat-themed wedding of their dreams!
A $40,000 Cat-Themed Wedding
The couple debated on a wedding theme for quite some time, until finally they wondered, what about cats? They were so passionate about cats, and especially about the one that’d changed both of their lives: a female orange cat named Waffle.
They had a ton of fun wedding planning, integrating the cat theme into every part of their special day. They had big cutouts of Waffle’s head, a photo of her on their menu, a cat cake topper, cat-themed foods and tableware… The list goes on.
Once all was said and done, they estimate that they spent around $40,000 on the wedding. It was an excellent day, and they have zero regrets!
Waffle’s Rise to Fame

Waffle’s parents adopted her as a kitten. Her mom says she had a really sad-looking face, and that they were both instantly enamored with her. Once they met her, they just couldn’t say no!
Since the two had never had pets before, they were anxious new cat parents. They kept a very close eye on their new kitten. Even when she behaved normally, they couldn’t help but wonder if she was doing okay!
Of course, Waffle grew into a healthy (and sassy!) adult cat. She acts well-behaved online, and she doesn’t scratch furniture like some cats. However, she’s a total diva who expects to get what she wants, and she’s so spicy at the vet that they have difficulty completing her exams.
Waffle also went viral long before her parents’ adorable wedding. Their social media fame came from dressing Waffle as a barista and using her paws to make it look like she was making coffee.
They ended up on the news after a journalist reached out to cover their story. It ended up being titled, “Pet Owners Spend $20k to Dress Their Cat Up as a Barista.” However, Waffle’s dad explains that’s what they spent (roughly) over a number of years, not all at once.
Waffle also became well-known at their local Starbucks, and even earned her “barista trainer” and “barista basics” pins. “She’s like a mini employee of them,” her dad says.

To some people, it may seem extreme to theme an entire wedding around your cat. However, Waffle is incredibly loved. She’s also changed the entire trajectory of her parents’ lives!
Her dad worked in a different industry, and was only an intern when he made Waffle’s Instagram account. He then met Nala Cat, and now he works at her cat food company.
Waffle’s mom is a medical student, which can be very stressful. Waffle might not have inspired her to change career paths, but she’s been a vital part of her mom’s support system. She makes her laugh all of the time and gives her comfort when she needs it most.
