The PETLIBRO Luma builds on the company’s earlier automatic litter box designs with a stronger raking system, improved sensors, and a more open, cat‑friendly layout. While previous PETLIBRO models used a smaller enclosed chamber, the Luma introduces a wide open‑top entry that gives cats more room to move and makes the box feel less confining.
The Luma’s interior space is larger and easier for cats to access, and the open design helps reduce hesitation for cats who dislike enclosed litter boxes. The litter bed remains generously sized, giving cats enough room to dig and turn comfortably.
PETLIBRO also redesigned the exterior controls. The buttons are now positioned along the top edge of the unit, giving the front a cleaner, more modern look. This streamlined layout helps the Luma blend into the home more naturally and makes the interface easier to reach without bending down.
With upgraded sensors, quieter operation, and optional AI‑powered waste analysis through the built-in camera, the Luma represents PETLIBRO’s most advanced litter box to date. These updates address common concerns with earlier models and show the company’s continued focus on improving usability, safety, and cat comfort.
What We Liked
- The open‑top design gives cats plenty of space and feels less confining than enclosed models
- Quiet raking cycle (30–40 dB) that doesn’t startle sensitive cats
- A sealed waste drawer helps contain odors and keeps the area cleaner
- App connectivity offers helpful insights, including visit tracking and optional AI waste analysis
- Straightforward setup with easy access to the waste drawer and internal components
What We Didn’t Like
- Some users report minor leaking around the litter compartment, especially with lighter litters
- Only compatible with clumping litter (pellet and crystal litters won’t work)
- Higher upfront cost compared to manual or basic automatic litter boxes
- The waste drawer may fill more quickly in multi‑cat home
What Did Our Test Cats Think?
Our experience with the PETLIBRO Luma was positive from the moment we unboxed it. Everything arrived securely packaged, and assembly was impressively simple with the liner and rake coming preinstalled, so setup mainly involved snapping the top section into place and sliding in the waste drawer. Connecting the Luma to Wi‑Fi and pairing it with the PETLIBRO app took only a few minutes.
The Luma’s design is modern and minimal, with a clean open‑top layout that blends easily into the home. The wide, unobstructed entry makes it approachable for cats of all sizes, especially for those who dislike enclosed litter boxes. Our test cats took to it quickly, and one stepped in within minutes, while the others followed shortly after without hesitation.
One standout feature was the built‑in camera and AI monitoring system. The Luma automatically captures photos during each visit, allowing you to match each cat to their bathroom habits inside the app. This is especially helpful in multi‑cat homes or foster environments where you may need to identify which cat is showing signs of IBD, straining, constipation, or possible urinary blockage. The ability to review images and link them to individual cat profiles adds a level of health awareness that most automatic litter boxes just don’t offer.
The app itself is clean and intuitive, offering visit logs, litter‑level monitoring, and waste‑drawer alerts. The AI analysis is part of a subscription service, so users should be aware that ongoing access requires a paid plan. Even without the subscription, the basic app functions remain useful for daily monitoring.
During testing, the Luma operated quietly, and the gentle raking motion didn’t startle any of our cats. The sealed waste drawer helped contain odors well, and the sliding‑access design made emptying and replacing the liner straightforward.
Overall, our test cats adapted quickly, and the added visibility from the camera made it easier to track individual health patterns—something especially valuable in multi‑cat or foster homes.

At the same time, some users report issues with the weight sensor, inconsistent cleaning cycles, or a desire for more durable materials. As more households test the Luma, a clearer picture of its long‑term reliability is beginning to emerge.
Positive Reviews
Freaking amazing, my first litter robot was a petsnowy brand, and let me tell you don’t get that get this. My cat loves it so much he uses it 10+ on some days, the built in camera/ motion sensor is the safety touch i need since i travel for work, and I get notification when he uses the litterbox, this was so worth it. – J. Yee Reviewing PETLIBRO Automatic Litter Box with AI-Camera on April 8, 2026
My cat Gigi really likes her new litter box. It was super easy to assember and the package comes with all basic necessities, including two diffeerent type of filers, litter bags, a step, and a carbon filter. Since it is an open style automatic litter box, Gigi adapted very quickly from her traditional one. Also, I really like its video recording feature. – Kenzo Reviewing PETLIBRO Automatic Litter Box with AI-Camera on April 8, 2026
I’ve been really happy with the PETLIBRO litter box overall, and it has been a noticeable upgrade from our previous setup. One thing I really like is the open design with the built-in lighting — it makes a big difference when checking the box. I can see pee and poop very clearly, which makes it much easier to monitor cleanliness and keep track of my cat’s bathroom habits. – John Doe Reviewing PETLIBRO Automatic Litter Box with AI-Camera on February 21, 2026
Negative Reviews
This product will make sure your cats can’t use the litter box. Every morning I wake up to this litter box stuck half way in cleaning mode saying the weight sensor detects a cat. But my cats are not even in the room. There is no way to fix this issue besides unplugging it manually which I do every day now and have to check on the litter box 10 times a day to make sure it’s not stuck. When it’s stuck the cats piss on my floor or in the closet. I’m so angry this product has become a daily problem in our house. It makes life harder not easier. – John Hartin Reviewing PETLIBRO Automatic Litter Box with AI-Camera
I was really excited to try the PetLibro automatic litter box, but unfortunately it hasn’t lived up to expectations. The unit is louder than I expected. The cleaning cycle is inconsistent and sometimes leaves clumps behind, which defeats the purpose of having a self-cleaning litter box. I also really wish it was stainless steel, make it much easier to deep clean and would feel more hygienic. Overall, it’s a good idea in theory, but for the price I expected something more reliable and easier to maintain.- Rachel Charles Reviewing PETLIBRO Automatic Litter Box with AI-Camera
Overall, Is the Luma a Good Choice?
The PETLIBRO Luma is a solid choice for cat parents who want a stylish, easy-to-use automatic litter box with helpful health-tracking features. Its open-top design, quiet operation, and sealed waste drawer make it comfortable and accessible for cats of all ages, which is something we really appreciate since many litter boxes are not designed with older cats in mind.
The companion app and AI monitoring system are especially useful for multi-cat homes, offering valuable insights into each cat’s bathroom habits and health patterns. Like most automatic litter boxes, it only works with clumping litter, may require more frequent emptying in homes with several cats, and comes with a higher upfront cost than simpler alternatives. Overall, the Luma stands out as a reliable and cat-friendly option.
