You’ve probably seen plenty of people being dragged around your neighborhood by large dogs, but what about a cat? Mika loves to explore the outdoors on her harness, pulling her mom from place to place in her excitement.
The friendliest cat on the block
Mika’s mom grew up with cats and wanted one desperately, but her husband was allergic. That was when they discovered hypoallergenic breeds, and decided to give one a try. Though hypoallergenic breeds don’t work out for everyone, as they still produce allergens, Mika’s parents are so glad they gave her a chance.
Mika’s mom describes her as friendly, outgoing, and a total lovebug. She loves all animals, and even tries to befriend the local foxes. (Of course, her mom keeps her at a distance!)
She tries to approach ducks, mice, and any other animals she sees. She also loves to greet humans on the street–no one goes ignored!
A silly, hyper personality
Mika is also quite hyper. She gets the zoomies often, whether she’s inside or out–though her mom says it’s much funnier outside, because she’s attached to a human. She ends up dragging them around the neighborhood while she runs around on her harness. As you may imagine, they get some funny looks from the neighbors!
Mika also loves scaling trees and is a super agile cat. You can follow her adventures on Instagram.
Harness training a cat
For those who also want to harness train their cat, Mika’s mom has some tips! She says she started Mika’s training slowly by taking her out every couple of days.
It’s important to try the harness out indoors first and let your cat get used to it before going outside. Introduce it slowly and use treats to make the experience a positive one! Try to stop before your cat gets stressed, taking baby steps each day until they can comfortably wear their harness for short periods.
Another tip is to always carry your cat outdoors, rather than letting them walk out on their own. This helps to prevent your cat from running out the door when you don’t want them to!
Mika knows she’s only allowed outside in her backpack, so she will wait inside of it at the front door until her parents bring her out. Backpacks are great for adventure cats because they give them someplace to retreat to if they’re scared or if you’re approached by an off-leash dog.
When she realized how much Mika loves her adventures, her mom began taking her on daily walks around the neighborhood. They began to go on occasional hikes as well.
Mika loves being out in nature and watching the world go by. Her mom says that she used to be super jealous of people who had cats, but now she’s lucky to have the best cat in the world.
While she was ready for everything, even a scaredy cat, she’s glad she ended up with Mika and her vibrant personality. Even dog people change their minds about cats when they meet her!
