Cat trackers are a vital resource for cat parents, whether your cat ventures outside daily or only escapes the house from time to time. While there are various tracking methodologies available, GPS trackers like Tractive’s CAT 6 Mini are the best fit for most cat parents. They allow you to track your cat at any distance, so long as they remain in the country and the tracker is able to access cell service.
The CAT 6 Mini stands out among the competition due to its health monitoring features, which allow cat parents to monitor four aspects of their cats’ health and receive alerts for unusual patterns.
I tested the CAT 6 Mini on my own indoor cat and ran it through some additional testing to determine the accuracy of its GPS tracking. In this review, we’ll go over how the device functions, its pros and cons, and whether it’s worth the price.

After testing previous Tractive cat trackers, our team was excited to get our hands on the Tractive CAT 6 Mini.
The Tractive CAT 6 Mini improves on Tractive’s other products, including the original Tractive CAT Mini, which we reviewed early this year. As someone who has tested both, I will provide some comparisons in this review, but the primary focus will be on the performance of the Tractive CAT 6 Mini itself.
I tested the product on my indoor-only cat, paying close attention to her comfort level while wearing the tracker and the accuracy of the health monitoring functions. I also used the Bluetooth tracking feature to find her around the house.
To test the GPS tracking, I brought the collar with me on several outings. I also had a family member drive around the neighborhood without me to see how accurately it could pinpoint their location when my phone wasn’t nearby.
Although our team received this product for free, all opinions I share today are my own.

Tractive was founded in 2012 and released its first pet tracker in 2014. Since then, the company has expanded outside of Austria and into the United States.
Tractive has also released several iterations of its dog and cat trackers, each improving on things like battery life, tracking capabilities, and pet comfort. Since acquiring Whistle, another pet technology company, its trackers have also been upgraded to include health tracking capabilities.
The company currently sells three trackers for dogs and one model for cats. The CAT 6 Mini features a slimmer design than the previous model as well as an integrated breakaway collar, improved battery life, and heart and respiratory rate monitoring.
Although the CAT 6 Mini has health tracking features, it isn’t a medical device and cannot diagnose health issues.

The Tractive CAT 6 Mini comes with its own SIM card and tracks your cat’s location using GPS and cellular networks. Set up safe zones in the app and receive alerts when your cat crosses into dangerous locations, or track them in real time using live tracking which updates every few seconds. Live Tracking also tells you how many miles or feet away your cat is and how fast they’re traveling.
If your cat is nearby, you can also use Radar mode, which uses Bluetooth to tell you whether you are getting closer or further from your cat. Turn on the collar’s LED light to find your cat more easily in the dark or have it play a quiet tune so that you know when you’re close.
The biggest thing differentiating the CAT 6 Mini from previous models (and from most other cat trackers on the market) is its heart and respiratory rate monitoring. After the collar has been worn for seven days, it learns what is normal for your cat and is able to begin tracking. You can then view daily and weekly reports in the health tab of the app, alongside activity and sleep tracking. If your cat’s activity levels or vitals go outside their normal bounds, you’ll receive a health alert via notification.

Another standout feature is the tracker’s long battery life, which lasts up to one week with power saving zones and up to four days outside of power saving zones.
The collar’s design is less bulky than most trackers I’ve tested, and since the tracker is integrated into a breakaway collar, you don’t have to purchase your own or fiddle with tracker mounts.
The CAT 6 Mini requires a premium Tractive subscription, which is billed annually at rates between $6–$12 per month. (In order to get the $6/month plan, you must pay for five years up front.) You cannot receive a partial refund for a canceled plan, though Tractive does offer a full refund if you cancel within 30 days of purchase.
What We Liked:

- Device is slimmer and more comfortable than most GPS trackers and comes with an integrated breakaway collar
- Battery lasts up to 7 days within power saving zones and up to 4 days without power saving
What We Didn’t Like:
- Subscription plans are only billed annually, not monthly
- Not for cats under 7 pounds
What Did Our Test Cats Think?

My first impression of the CAT 6 Mini is that it’s much slimmer than other GPS trackers I’ve tried, including Tractive’s CAT Mini. It also comes integrated into a breakaway collar, so there aren’t any tracker mounts to assemble.
Setup was easy. I simply charged the collar, connected it to the phone app, and put it on my cat! She seemed very comfortable in the collar, almost acting like she didn’t notice it at all. This hasn’t been the case for bulkier tracking devices, so I was pleasantly surprised.
The tracker seems thoughtfully designed and improves greatly on the original CAT Mini in my opinion. I liked that it charged quickly and had a good battery life, so I didn’t have to constantly take it on and off my cat. This also meant that the health monitoring was more consistent and accurate than other health-monitoring devices I’ve tried.
While testing the tracker indoors, I was able to easily find my cat using Radar mode. Normally I’d use the flashlight on my phone to look under beds and other furniture, but instead I was able to turn on the LED lights on the collar and just peek quickly to see if anything was glowing!

The GPS tracking outdoors also worked well, both when I was with the tracker and when I sent a family member away with it. The battery life does drain faster in Live Tracking mode, which could be a problem if you’re having trouble finding your cat and the collar is already low on battery.
The tracker does have a fairly long battery life, however, and enters power saving mode while in range of your Wi-Fi. You can also set up additional power saving zones so that the tracker uses less battery life while your cat is in safe areas.
What Do Customers Think of the Tractive CAT 6 Mini?
We were able to test the Tractive CAT 6 Mini shortly after its release. At the time of writing, there are no reviews on Chewy, and the product isn’t yet listed on Amazon.
Positive Reviews
Positive reviews on Tractive’s own website praise the device for being accurate and easy to use, which matches the experiences of our own reviewers as well.
Other highlights include a long battery life compared to other trackers on the market, great nearby tracking options, and health and activity monitoring that notifies cat parents of changes in activity or resting vitals.
Negative Reviews
From reviews on older products, the top complaint about Tractive’s tracking devices generally seems to be the subscription pricing. Of course, all GPS trackers require a monthly service fee to work, similar to your cell phone. Still, cat owners understandably get frustrated that the collar won’t track their cat without an active subscription and that Tractive doesn’t offer monthly payment options.
Several reviewers also complain about poor customer support and inaccuracies with GPS tracking. Although this wasn’t our experience with the tracker, it may depend on your area.
Overall, Is the Tractive CAT 6 Mini a Good Choice?
I found the CAT 6 Mini to be one of the best cat trackers I’ve tested, and the health tracking provides value for both indoor and outdoor cats.
I could see myself purchasing this one solely for health monitoring, especially since my cats are all over 12 years old. When you have senior cats, health problems can sneak up on you! Prompt veterinary treatment makes a huge difference, and being able to easily view your cat’s activity levels, heart rate, and respiratory rate in the app allows you to notice changes earlier than you might otherwise.
Of course, the tracker will also track down door-dashers and escape artists, as well as outdoor cats who roam too far from home. That said, unsupervised free roaming will never be safe for cats, and no tracker should be used as an alternative to supervision and containment.
In my opinion, the CAT 6 Mini’s only downside is the yearly subscription plan. However, even this is balanced out by the peace of mind you’ll get from knowing where your cat is at all times and receiving valuable insights into their health.
